The Intermediate Civil/Structural Designer position is responsible for creating detailed design drawings and models for civil and structural engineering projects. Reporting to the Drafting Supervisor, This Intermediate Civil/Structural Designer’s role involves utilizing drafting software, interpreting technical drawings and specifications, and collaborating with project engineers to ensure compliance with design requirements. The Intermediate Civil/Structural Designer is expected to possess a strong understanding of civil and structural design principles, drafting standards, and codes, as well as proficiency in relevant software tools. Attention to detail, accuracy in producing drawings, and effective communication skills are essential for success in this role.KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):DESIGN QUALITY CONTROLamp; COMPLIANCE (Weighting 50%)Quality Controlamp; Review

  • Conduct thorough quality checks of design drawings to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to project requirements.
  • Review and verify the completeness and correctness of design documentation prepared by other team members or external consultants.
  • Assist in resolving design-related issues or discrepancies through effective communication and coordination with the project team.
Technical Documentation
  • Generate accurate and comprehensive technical documentation, including design calculations, material specifications, and construction details.
  • Create and maintain an organized library of design drawings, project files, and related documents for easy reference and retrieval.
  • Assist in compiling design packages, drawing sets, and construction documentation for submittal to clients, regulatory authorities, and construction teams.
Complianceamp; Standards
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and industry standards in the design and drafting process.
  • Stay updated on the latest building codes, design guidelines, and best practices related to civil and structural engineering.
  • Coordinate with engineers and project managers to address design requirements and incorporate changes or revisions.
DESIGN DEVELOPMENTamp; DRAFTING (Weighting 30%)Designamp; Drafting
  • Develop detailed design drawings and specifications for civil and structural engineering projects using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, or similar tools).
  • Develop 2D and 3D models, sections, elevations, and construction details for various civil and structural components,
  • Collaborate with engineers and architects to understand project requirements and translate them into accurate and precise drawings.
  • Create structural layouts, foundation plans, elevation drawings, and detailed sections based on project specifications and industry standards.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and quality standards in all design and drafting work.
Structural Analysisamp; Calculation
  • Assist engineers in performing structural analysis and calculations to determine load capacities, stresses, and material specifications.
  • Analyze and interpret engineering data, codes, and standards to ensure compliance with safety and design regulations.
  • Apply principles of structural engineering to create designs that are structurally sound and meet project specifications.
  • Coordinate with the engineering team to incorporate structural analysis results into design drawings.
PROJECT COLLABORATION (Weighting 20%)Project Coordination
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, architects, and project managers, to ensure seamless project coordination.
  • Review project specifications, drawings, and documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Participate in project meetings, providing technical inputs and communicating design-related information.
Collaborationamp; Communication
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, such as clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
  • Address design-related queries and provide technical support during project execution.
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary coordination meetings, sharing insights and coordinating design changes as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Process Piping Design Diploma (or equivalent)
  • Pressure Vessel Design Certificate (or equivalent) is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in civil and structural design and drafting.
  • Proficiency in drafting software such as AutoCAD, Bluebeam, or similar tools.
  • Strong knowledge of civil and structural design principles, codes, and standards.
  • Experience with 3D modeling software is an asset.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to produce accurate and error-free drawings.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with project teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional certification or registration as a Technologist or Technician is preferred.
