Strong customer service oriented individual that assists patients and visitors accessing the laboratory with registering, accessioning and printing bar-codes as needed. Responsible for filing, retrieval and dissemination of reports as needed.The successful incumbent must be able to manage a fast pace and high volume workload. Must be able to meet and exceed customer service expectations. Ensure productivity and accuracy standards are maintained according to laboratory accreditation standards. Must have strong knowledge of laboratory and pathology terminology and able to communicate with many stakeholders throughout the hospital regularly. The Clerical Associate-Laboratory must also be able to perform administrative duties as required including documentation of incidents, verify accuracy of patient information, payroll, inventory management, and participation in quality management systems.The physical demands of the role may include but are not limited to prolonged sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling. This position contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.Posted hours do not constitute a guarantee that shifts will not be subject to change.Skills and Qualifications:
  • Successful completion of secondary school required, College diploma in Administrative Services
  • Completion of Medical Terminology course required
  • Minimum 3-5 years recent medical office administration
  • Meditech experience preferred
  • Proficiency in laboratory terminology, polices and procedures essential
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Knowledge of MS Office, in particular MS Word required
  • Excellent communication skills (proficiency in English writing and grammar) required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to relate well to others with leadership abilities
  • Critical thinking/problem solving skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Typing speed of 60wpm and evidence of a high standard of accuracy
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis is required
