That’s where you come in.What you will do…The Employment Specialist will work as part of a team to enhance knowledge and learning of the skilled trades to newcomers, service providers, and employers in the Waterloo Region, Stratford-Perth County and Guelph. The Employment Specialists responsibilities will include supporting with the facilitation of community information sessions, with a focus on providing individualized support and orientation to newcomer. This position will also include researching information on the skilled trades, providing input and updates to information session content and completing required reporting on targets. This position will assist in accumulating local labour market information and will contribute to meeting the outcomes as outlined in the regional outreach strategy, while working collaboratively with YMCA’s in five other regions across the province. The Employment Specialist is responsible for representing ONTAP at events and focus groups for newcomers and community job fairs and booths. Working in a team, the Employment Specialist will assist in meeting the strategic achievement of all the program’s desired outcomes and targets. The successful candidate will demonstrate a personal commitment to and understanding of the Y’s mission, guiding principles, vision, values and purpose.What you will bring…Ideally, you will have a post-secondary degree or diploma in a related educational field, (Career Professional Diploma). Experience in the field of employment and/or immigrant services. You will have excellent computer knowledge of Microsoft Office and Access, excellent oral and written communication skills, knowledge of the skilled trades sector in Ontario, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with both skilled trades employers and the newcomer clients you will serve. You will also have experience conducting in-depth research on specific trades and industries to provide insight to clients and experience with delivering presentations to a diverse audience.
