Job Description

We create opportunities for livestock & poultry farms to be more profitable by providing innovative products, programs and services which lower feeding and livestock producers costs, maximize animal performance, and increase nutritional and commercial value of our customers products; meat, milk and eggs.In 1996, Farmers Depot was established within the GVF group of companies. Since then, Farmers Depot has grown to be a complete animal health and equipment supplier for livestock producers providing over two thousand quality animal health products at a competitive price with next day delivery, and product support.Farmers Depot is looking for an Order Fulfillment Lead Hand to join our team in Cambridge, Ontario. As a key and collaborative player on the team, you will work in a fast paced environment with an amazing group of people to ensure our customers get the products they need. At Farmers Depot, we pride ourselves on service, same day shipping, product knowledge and product selection. We are all in this together to help our customers (livestock farmers) be as successful as possible. Getting them the right products on time is how we do that. As the successful candidate for this position, you can lead and organize people, prioritize work that needs to get done and keep things organized to ensure that deadlines are met, and tasks are completed accurately. You can do all this while working side-by-side completing the same job requirements as the people you are responsible for supervising.*W*hat you’ll do:

  • Create monthly shift and production run schedules ensuring time off is properly covered
  • Approve clocked hours for your team in GVF’s payroll system, once a week
  • Set daily and weekly priorities with your team and be flexible to personally fill in on areas that require extra support and coverage
  • Play lead role for the team in deciding the most appropriate shipping methods and carriers to use for various types of customer orders
  • Become an expert on all warehouse duties and give training and support to your team of pickers, shippers and material handlers
  • Accurately pick customer orders from the warehouse shelves, pack them in accordance with Farmers Depot’s packing standards and prepare shipping labels and/or bill of ladings
  • Actively stay on top of all the different shipping methods available to Farmers Depot and choose the most appropriate one for the order being packed and shipped
  • Receive shipping containers/truck trailers at the dock, unload them, verify that the inventory being delivered meets the purchase order quantities and place the products onto the warehouse shelves in their specific locations
  • Restock and replenish products on shelves ensuring that all shelves are sufficiently full, neatly faced and products are in the right location/bins
  • Complete regular daily inventory cycle counts and occasionally larger inventory counts (full day)
  • Daily, drive the company van prepared customer orders to our Main Street warehouse location and organize them for our internal GVF loaders and truck drivers to deliver to farms the next morning
  • Occasionally use the company van to drive to supplier’s warehouse locations and pick up supplies and product inventory
  • Be flexible to stay until work is completed (potentially beyond scheduled hours) when on the “truck run” shift
  • As a team member, be ready to jump in where needed when other team members are on lunch, or taking time off, even if that means working on tasks that aren’t part of the day’s regular activities
  • Operate the forklift within the warehouse for moving material and use it to unload trucks, trailers and sea containers
  • As part of handling products, be able and willing to manually lift and maneuver products that weight 25 kgs – usually in jug form but also sometimes in bag form. Heavier products (e.g., 200kg drums of liquid) can be moved using a drum lifting tool attached to the forklift although some employees prefer to move them manually using a rolling technique
  • Maintain a clean desk area (5S principles) and warehouse environment and assist with any and all warehouse responsibilities as required
Your background includes:
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in a warehouse, manufacturing facility or similar role
  • Hands on experience positively leading and contributing to a team
  • Forklift license and experience is a must and/or the ability and desire to learn – training will be provided
  • A full G driver’s license is required as there is a daily driving component to this job
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
  • Strong comfort level using and learning technology and shipping inventory software
  • WHIMIS and TDG skills are required – training will be provided
  • Driven, self starter with highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Detail oriented, with flexible and positive attitude
  • Experience in identifying how to improve the current way of doing things and implementing new ideas
  • Background in the farming or agriculture industry is an asset for easier recognition of products, but not a requirement
Working with us: This is a permanent, full-time position based out of 455 Dobbie Drive, Cambridge, Ontario. The hours for this position consist of a weekly shift rotation Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:30pm and 9:30am to CLOSE. Please note that the closing time will vary depending on deliveries for that day and may go as late as 7pm but the normal close time would be 6:00pm to 6:30pm.
