Academic Part-time PositionThe School of Engineering & Technology is looking for qualified individuals to teach part-time in the Bachelor of Interior Design program as part of the preparatory foundation module which occurs prior to the start of the fall semester (August 22, 2022 –September 2, 2022)The Foundation Module is a two-week preparatory session designed to provide students with the required fundamental skills and refresh their prior knowledge to be successful in the Bachelor of Interior Design program.Foundation Science: Mathematical Tools
  • Convert between units: between metric units with a variety of SI prefixes, between metric and imperial units, including squared and cubed units.
  • Estimate and measure lengths to calculate areas and volumes in a variety of units.
  • Convert among temperature scales.
  • Use scaling to interpret and draw simple structures.
  • Express results in scientific and decimal notation.
  • Round calculations based on measured quantities using the concepts of accuracy and precision.
Foundation Science: Forces, Density and Pressure
  • Draw free-body diagrams of forces acting on an object.
  • Distinguish among weight, mass, and gravity.
  • Analyze and solve problems involving forces acting on an object in equilibrium.
  • Solve problems involving density in a variety of units.
  • Calculate pressure in a variety of units
This course consists of daily lectures that are delivered during the two-week period for a total of 11 hours. Successful candidate(s) will be required to be available to work on campus for the duration of this assignment.Responsibilities:
  • Ensures student awareness of course objectives, instructional approach, and evaluation systems
  • Carries out regularly scheduled instruction according to the format prescribed for the course, including as appropriate, classroom, computer-assisted lab lessons, teacher-led, and other instructional techniques
  • Evaluates student progress/achievement, assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of the students’ work within the assigned course, and maintain records as required
  • Creates and maintains a positive learning environment which supports the diversity of students’ cultures, educational backgrounds, and learning styles
  • Supports students in the use of the Learning Management System (D2L), as well as maintaining course materials within this system
  • Collaborates and build relations with other program faculty
Qualifications:
  • A Master’s Degree in Engineering, Science, Math, or Physics is required for this assignment
  • Adult or post-secondary teaching experience is considered an asset
  • Knowledge and experience of computer systems (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) and educational technologies (e.g., D2L) is preferred
  • Confident in presenting and relating to learners through in-person delivery methods using variety of software
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to contribute to and work in a positive team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to learners and foster a positive learning environment among diverse student populations including international students and students requiring accommodation is an asset
