Visit us today and check out www.novascotia.com to see why more people from across the globe are moving here.ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Nutrition & Food Services Supervisor and Manager of Nutrition & Food Services, the Cook performs basic, routine duties related to the assembly and service of food for patients. Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing all menu items according to standardized recipes
  • Participating in facility menu review
  • Adjusting recipes according to food requirements and providing information to food service supervisor for ordering of food
  • Ensuring quality of food products in all stages of production
  • Participating in quality assurance activities
  • Operating electric, gas, steam equipment
  • Maintaining equipment in high degree of cleanliness
  • Receiving deliveries from various vendors
  • Participating in delivery of patient food service
Qualifications
  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Minimum of 1 year recent cooking experience required
  • Knowledge of food handling and safety practices in an institutional kitchen
  • TrainCan Advanced Course, or willing to take upon hire
  • Knowledge of therapeutic diets is an asset
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Able to operate institutional food service equipment
  • Ability to operate cooking equipment and complete all tasks in the position of cook
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Commitment to confidentiality and privacy of Nova Scotia Health patients and clients
  • Annually access the training and education on patient, client and personal safety made available by Nova Scotia Health
  • Commitment to maintain and protect patient, client, and personal safety on an ongoing basis
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
