Job Description

Has your career led to the development of expertise in highway maintenance and construction Why not take the next step and become part of our skilled and dynamic team, with the Ministry of TransportationWhat can I expect to do in this roleApplying your technical expertise, negotiation skills and your knowledge of contract practices, you will:

  • monitor contractors delivery of construction and maintenance operations while ensuring necessary work records are maintained
  • ensure compliance with contract requirements, review of extra work, contract drawings and documents and claims
  • liaise with contractors, property owners, internal staff, and the general public to address issues and complaints
  • provide technical advice and training to staff
How do I qualifyMandatory
  • The position requires the successful candidate to have a valid class G drivers licence or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid drivers licence upon being hired.
Technical and Legislative Knowledge
  • You have knowledge and experience in maintenance and/or construction practices including inspection and road patrolling and related duties
  • You have the ability to interpret contract drawings and documents
  • You have knowledge and experience of highway maintenance and/or construction standards and specifications
  • You have knowledge of related policies, acts and regulations, safety, and environmental protection requirements (e.g. HTA, Construction Lien Act, Aggregate Resources Act, OH&S Act, Environmental Assessment Act, Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act, WHMIS etc.)
Essential Skills
  • You have communication and interpersonal skills
  • You have analytical, negotiation and problem solving skills
  • You have mathematical skills to assist with the assessment of contract related issues
  • You have organizational and planning skills to effectively carry out assigned inspection and monitoring duties
  • You have the ability to monitor contractors operations, assess contractors and consultants work for compliance
  • You are proficient in using computer software and applications to complete reports and spreadsheets
