The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has an opening for a temporary full-time Financial Analyst II, Corporate Accounting in the Financial Services division. This temporary full-time opportunity is for a period up to March 2023.Job descriptionThe Financial Analyst II, Corporate Accounting, is responsible for maintaining the financial accounting system and other related sub-ledger systems, reconciling accounts, preparing financial reports, statements, and year end working papers, including some Provincial fiscal year ends.Essential responsibilitiesDemonstrate Chatham-Kent’s core values and competenciesDevelop, interpret, and implement complex financial and accounting concepts, or techniques for financial planning and controlProvide daily, monthly, and yearly full financial services and some banking services to assigned departments regarding their financial information and reporting requirementsCoordinate with various departments and divisions to gather, analyze, summarize and report on financial information for internal and external purposes (including bank reconciliations and balance sheets)Provide support and maintenance of the general accounting system, and other related sub-ledger systemsAdapt processes and reporting procedures to mandated legislative & policy changesProvide assistance for Financial Analyst 1’s and Supervisor during peak timesParticipate in the review, evaluation, development and implementation of the corporate financial systemsProvide training services for various new financial software or process changes to both existing and new employeesEssential qualificationsCollege diploma or university degree (preferably in an accounting or business administration program), with two (2) to four (4) years of related experienceFinancial accounting background, preferably in a related financial analyst positionUnderstanding of accounting practices and concepts, preferably in a municipal environmentUnderstanding of financial controls and working knowledge of accounting principles and procedures (GAAP)Experience with bank reconciliations and balance sheetsExperience manipulating large amounts of data into Excel or other related databaseAdapting to change and decisive problem solving; delivering resultsWorking knowledge of various banking and financial software systems, FMW, JD Edwards (or similar ERP software programs), and Reports Now (or other similar financial programs)Strong knowledge of Excel spreadsheet software, internet researchStrong computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) (or similar software programs)Certifications, memberships, licensesCertified Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or enrollment in the Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) program an assetWork environment/hours of workThis position works occasional evening and weekend hoursMunicipality of Chatham-Kent COVID-19 Vaccination PolicyThe Municipality of Chatham-Kent has a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy.
