Job Description

Mylen commits to being at the forefront good environmental stewardship in dealings with suppliers, customers, employees, the government and community and therefore is dedicated to reducing the environmental footprint by providing products and services that enable its customers to reduce their environmental impact as well.POSITION SUMMARYUnder the supervision of the Production Manager, the Finishing Technician will work in a departmental capacity, responsible for efficient product finishing, working with raw wood or chemical treated components and high-grade veneers, in accordance with engineered drawings, finish specifications and special requests, while adhering to adequate quality standards and ensuring process optimization.SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Possess beginner to advanced knowledge of finishing work stations.
  • Sand, trim, scrape, deburr clean or polish objects or parts to correct defects or to prepare surfaces for further finishing, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Knowledge of safe operation of general hand and air tools.
  • Knowledge of safe general operations of machinery and equipment.
  • Measure and mark objects or parts to ensure sanding and polishing standards are met.
  • Apply lacquer, clear coats and finishes to finished product surfaces, ensuring consistent application and coverage (applied by hand and/or spray equipment).
  • Repair/prepare surface between coats for additional finishing.
  • Verify quality of finished products by inspecting, comparing to templates and/or measuring dimensions, for high quality, clear and consistent finished result.
  • Perform basic preventative maintenance on equipment and machinery, as needed.
  • Document and report defects, errors and discrepancies for repair.
  • Material management (i.e., documentation of products or materials low or missing).
  • Work in compliance with all administrative and health and safety policies and procedures, as per legislative requirements and as outlined in Company policies.
  • Assist in other departments as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to work in a quality, results driven and fast paced work environment.
  • Ability to work in hot and humid and cold work environments.
  • Physically demanding tasks (i.e., lifting, bending and standing for long periods of time).
  • Interaction with and/or movement of chemicals within the finishing department.
  • Ability to work extended hours or weekends when required to meet production demands.
  • Participate in compulsory training as deemed necessary for the role.
  • CSA steel toed construction grade safety shoes in production area.
  • Means of daily/reliable transportation.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive vocational, technical wood-working, surface preparation, finishing and cabinetry training and/or experience, trade certification or education in woodworking preferred.
  • Ability to understand and interpret engineering and technical drawings, as well as other written instructions and design specifications.
  • Strong mathematical knowledge.
  • Ability to read and take accurate measurements and finish materials to a high level of quality and precision.
  • High level attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure, while maintaining speed and accuracy to ensure daily production requirements are met.
  • Effective verbal and listening communication skills.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification an asset.
  • Valid transportation of dangerous goods certification an asset.
  • Valid Joint Health and Safety Committee certification an asset.
