Job Description

The Fraser Valley Child Development Centre is a community based organization providing innovative, strength based, family centered services to children and their families. We believe in “Helping Kids Shine”.Job Summary:Performs security duties such as patrolling buildings and grounds and enforces facility regulations during the shift and performs basic maintenance, light and heavy cleaning duties and repair duties.Typical Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Performs security duties for the facility such as patrolling the building and grounds, checking that doors and windows are secure. Reports incidents to appropriate staff.
  • Performs basic maintenance and repair work such as unplugging sinks and toilets, checking oil and fluid levels of equipment, and replacing tap washers, light bulbs, and fluorescent tubes. Notifies supervisor of major repair and maintenance requirements.
  • Cleans external areas such as entranceways, sidewalks, and parking lots using manual and power brooms, rakes, shovels and other equipment to remove dirt, leaves, snow and other refuse.
  • Cleans, washes, and disinfects building areas such as walls, windows, ceilings, floors, carpets, air vents, furniture, blinds and washrooms by methods such as dusting, polishing, vacuuming, sweeping, wet mopping, shampooing, waxing, and buffing, using various manual and power cleaning equipment.
  • Collects and removes garbage and recyclable materials, and ensures the safe disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Transports and/or moves equipment, furniture, and supplies manually and/or using aides such as dollies and carts. Arranges furniture for special events.
Qualifications:Two years related experience and a WHMIS certificate required or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Physical ability to carry out duties of the position.
