Job Description

Pilot/Trailer Operator, Heavy Haul DivisionTriton Transport is a progressive and specialized heavy haul transportation company providing services throughout North America from facilities in Chilliwack, British Columbia and Nisku, Alberta. We are seeking a skilled and knowledgeable Trailer Operator who has experience with multi-axle trailing configurations.Triton has been awarded the Trucking HR Canada 2022 Top Small Fleet Award for the 8th consecutive year, earning us the designation of "Top Fleet of Distinction". You will also be eligible for an annual boot and glove allowance, as well as company paid medical/dental/vision benefits, short- and long-term disability, a pension and matched RRSP savings plan, along with three weeks of vacation in your first year.This position can be based out of either the Chilliwack or Nisku facility. The role will require you to be capable of setting up, operating, inspecting, and performing basic maintenance on specialized transport trailers used in the transport of a variety of OD/OW loads for construction, oil and gas, mining, forestry and manufacturing industries throughout the Pacific Northwest US, AB, BC and SK. Occasional longer over the highway loads requiring longer travel may occur. We value our employee’s safety and wellbeing and provide extensive training and compliance measures.Responsibilities (including but not limited to:

  • Conduct all business and communication in a professional, respectful manner
  • Report to various work sites as directed by the dispatcher, and/or manager on time and ready to operator trailer equipment or perform assigned duties
  • Build trailer configurations using basic hand tools to prepare for specific heavy haul projects
  • Ensure all components and the operating systems (hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic) as a whole are in good working condition and troubleshoot any issues enroute
  • Capable of adjusting trailers to ensure even distribution of weight across all axles, even over rough terrain
  • Able to perform basic rigging responsibilities
  • Correctly assess and give attention to space, obstacles present, and correct securement of loads
  • Assist in disassembly and preparation of trailers for transport following delivery and arranges for any maintenance prior to the next scheduled move
  • Ensure that Triton, customer, site, provincial and federal safety requirements are met
  • Complete all required paperwork and submit to the office in a timely fashion
  • Able to pilot wide/high/long loads on highway and sit as required
  • Properly maintain all safety and operational equipment of their assigned Pilot truck
The successful candidate must meet the following essential qualifications and requirements:
  • A valid Driver’s License (Class 1 is an asset)
  • Previous experience with heavy or over-dimensional highway transport including winter and mountain conditions and US highway is necessary
  • A mechanical aptitude and knowledge of truck & trailer components
  • Knowledge of NSC and FMCSA regulations and Canada Labour Code Occupational Health and Safety compliance with a desire to contribute to a safe work environment
  • Able to handle a heavy workload and work effectively with interruptions and changing priorities
  • Able to read and follow permit requirements
  • Can effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Able to cross the CAN/US border on a regular basis. (A TWIC card is an asset)
  • Team player who is respectful to peers and clients
  • Physically fit
  • Able to perform duties at all hours of the day
