Job Description

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • PERMANENT/FULL TIME GRAVEYARD SHIFT AT THE WOMEN’S SHELTER
HOURS:
  • Overnight 7:00 pm to 7:00 am 12-hour Shift.
  • Thursday, Friday, Saturday nights (occasional Sundays).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Awareness and compliance with CHILLIWACK Policies and Procedures.
  • Awareness of The Salvation Army Communicable Disease Control Manual
  • Monitors the activities of the clients and maintains availability for personal, practical and morale support; may include providing safe storage and recording of personal belongings.
  • Accurately records day-to-day happenings using appropriate methods; maintains logbooks and completes occurrence reports.
  • Responds to after office hour requests and process for accommodation if beds are available.
  • Coordinates client care relating to security issues; may be directly involved in doing bed checks and room searches.
  • May carry out inspection/security checks of property and grounds in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Handles the admission, orientation and evaluation of guests
  • Performs internal and external security checks
  • Consistently demonstrates respect and empathy for all guests
  • Performs other assigned duties as required to ensure a safe and secure environment
  • Ensures ongoing enforcement of policies, which may include client discipline. Discharge disturbing or unruly clients for the protection of other clients. Note the details in the daily logs
  • May prepare or provide simple meals for clients.
  • Maintain a quiet and comfortable and secure environment for our shelter clients.
  • Assure that each client receives the assigned bed with clean linen and personal hygiene products
  • Provide telephone access for local calls and message retrieval when requested
  • Provide direction to Clients Rights and Responsibilities
  • Offer the services of the Outreach Worker (by appointment) to assist in locating other community services and accommodation
  • Participate in ongoing training as provided and cooperate in the Annual Performance Evaluation
  • The performance of the job requires moderate amounts of keyboarding, and performing security walks. It also requires continuously monitoring of the environment, monitoring security cameras and attentiveness when interacting with clients and recording information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Strong service ethic and a friendly disposition with the public
  • Adaptability to change and frequent interruptions
  • Team oriented and able to take initiative
  • Minimum on call availability required
  • Willingness to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Criminal Record Check
  • CPR, First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Training an asset
  • Computer ability
  • Ability to relate and engage marginalized people.

    • Universal precautions.
  • Immunization for Hepatitis B.
