To do that, we employ qualified, competent and caring individuals who are dedicated to their professions and to our vision of Healthy People, Healthy Communities.Job SummaryAs part of the Outreach and Promotion/Prevention Team, the Addictions Officer will provide advanced leadership in the development, coordination, planning, and implementation of specialized mental health promotion and Addictions Prevention as identified in the Provincial Policy Framework for Mental Health and Addictions, Primary Health Care Framework, Wellness Strategy, and other related strategies. The Addictions Officer will assess community needs, research appropriate initiatives, and implement and evaluate programming. The Addictions Officer is also responsible to provide addictions counselling to select groups, and/or individuals as required. This role links with primary health care programs and with other wellness/health promotion consultants. Travel throughout the eastern region will be required.Job DemandsBy applying for this job, you acknowledge an understanding that regular requirements and demands of this job include (but are not limited to):Occasionally required to lift or carry objects (presentation materials) up to 25 lbs.Regularly sits to meet with clients, and work on the computer.Visual and auditory concentration is regularly required to observe and listen to clients during assessments and counselling, or when driving to work sites.Regularly exposed to time pressures; occasionally exposed to interruptions due to crisis situations.High levels of attentiveness is required on a regular basis to assess client risk and to ensure safety.Job QualificationsGraduation from a recognized post-secondary institution with a Bachelors Degree in Social Work, or a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology or a related Graduate Degree in a clinical discipline as determined by the employer is required.A minimum of three (3) out of the last five (5) years experience working in the Mental Health and Addictions field, with a focus in Health Promotion is required.Proven ability in the development, delivery and evaluation of education/training programs.Strong knowledge related to the Mental Health and Addictions field including current issues, best practices, programs and services, and community resources.Current registration with a relevant professional association is required.A valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class 5 Drivers License and the use of a private vehicle are conditions of employment.A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.If this is an internal posting only, only applicants of the Eastern Health NAPE HP Regional Bargaining Unit will be considered.
