The Corporation of the County of Huron’s Homes for the Aged Department Requires Casual Resident Care Aides for Huronview (Clinton) and Huronlea (Brussels)Position Summary:The role of the Resident Care Aide is to enhance the delivery of care provided by the Personal Support Worker. This will include assisting residents in performing activities of daily living, performing and documenting specific interventions as outlined on the individual care plans, and documenting Point Of Care Tasks all while working closely with the interdisciplinary team.Your key responsibilities will include supporting our PSWs, Dietary and Nursing staff with basic tasks, so they can focus on resident care. This role does not provide one on one personal care to residents.Long-Term care is a 24/7 operation – shifts may be up to 8 hours in length, seven days a week (days, evenings and nights). Shifts will be available by call-in with some opportunities for pre-scheduled shifts.Roles and Responsibilities:Accountability:Adherence to all policies, procedures and mission/vision/values statements of the Home.Maintain professionalism with all residents, staff, families, volunteers, community members and agency representatives.Maintains confidentiality and privacy of residents and staff as required under legislation and as per policies and procedures of the Home.Accepts responsibility for the quality of care and service provided.Key Responsibilities:Makes beds and changes linens.Tidies resident rooms ensuring areas are clear of debris; dishes; glasses; and ensuring the availability of garbage cans and tissues for residents.Labels resident personal items such as toothbrushes/toothpaste/comb/brushes/hand creams.Ensures resident’s call bell is within reach when a resident is in the room. Report to registered staff if any call bells need to be lengthened.1:1 visits with residents as directed by registered staff.Distributes fresh towels and face cloths to resident rooms.Set out clothes in residents’ rooms for the next day.Assists in maintaining a physical and psycho-social environment that meets the needs of the residents.Assists in maintaining adequate standards of cleanliness.Assists staff with mechanical lift transfers as the 2nd person.Answers call bells and follow up with nursing staff for residents requiring/requesting direct care assistance.Porter residents to and from meals.Assists with nourishment cart and assists residents to consume nourishment.Assists with meal/feeding/tray service as delegated by registered staff.Clears dining room tables after resident meals.Assists team as required, i.e., retrieve extra supplies, etc.Anticipate the needs of team members and seek to provide assistance, and minimize or eliminate problems.Provides feedback to the nursing staff on patient requests/needs.Attends and participates in staff meetings, team meetings, and unit in-services.Deals tactfully and courteously with residents, residents’ families, visitors and staff.Interacts consistently with residents in a positive manner.In the performance of all duties, demonstrate respect for the privacy, dignity, and individuality of the resident; adhere to home policy on confidentiality.Perform all duties and demonstrate conduct in accordance with the policies and procedures of the County of Huron.Other duties as assigned.Qualifications and Education Requirements:Grade 12 or High School EquivalentExperience working with seniors and/or chronic care residents in a health care facility or community setting, with a genuine interest in and concern for seniors.Has an acceptable standard of appearance and behaviour.
