Job Description

This position is located in Colborne, OntarioJob Summary:The Material Control Leader is responsible for the preparation, communication and oversight of the flow of production materials and coordination of all outgoing shipments within Ontario facilities. This position is also responsible for the overall inventory management controls including but not limited to inventory system accuracy and documentation, scheduling and reporting of Ontario inventory counts and management of material distribution. The position provides oversight to material handler employees, maintains training records, and maintains the administration of all bill of materials and packing slips.General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Schedules and coordinates the receipt and distribution of production materials.
  • Champions the development of goals to drive success throughout the company.
  • Assesses manpower, training capacity and break allocation to ensure coverage of all areas.
  • Effectively communicates daily requirements to team members.
  • Creates delivery schedules as required for internal and external customers.
  • Selecting carrier, the Material Control Leader arranges and facilitates pick-up and delivery of materials including expedites, outlining the date, time and location internally and externally.
  • Communicates status changes to schedule to appropriate individuals.
  • Collaborates with others Leaders to resolve schedules concerns or issues.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communication with production teams, support teams and external parties (ie. Contractors, transportation providers, custom brokers, customers and suppliers).
  • Maintains accurate documentation of shipping, receiving and material handling related reporting activities as required.
  • Instructs and advises material handlers and shipping and receiving personnel in regards to priorities and changes.
  • Identifies material shortages and works with other Leaders to resolves shortages.
  • Logs, labels and designates storage of materials location in accordance with health and safety regulations.
  • Maintains shunting services and control of material in trailers.
  • Assists in the development and revision of performance expectations, work instructions and operational policies and procedures as required.
  • Evaluates processes and implements cost reduction and continuous improvement activities.
  • Participates in various meetings and in all 5S initiatives.
  • Facilitates departmental training of material handlers, and line feeders as required.
  • Carries out other duties as required.
Qualifications:A Material Control Leader should demonstrate the following competencies prior to entry into the role:
  • Five years’ experience in leadership role within a materials distribution center or similar.
  • Experience in planning and coordination of materials.
  • Driving continuous improvement through their teams using the Core Values of Cam Tran to guide decision making.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience using a Materials Requisition Planning system.
  • Experience communicating individual expectations to employees to drive accountability and to communicate the connection between the core values and how they relate to the employees day to day activities.
  • Facilitation of daily checks in’s with employees.
  • Forklift licence and certification.
Working Conditions:
  • Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
  • Work is conducted in an indoor manufacturing environment around various pieces of equipment.
  • Environment can be hot during summer months.
  • Heaving lifting is required on a occasional basis. For materials in excess of 50lbs employees use overhead crane or may require the assistance of two or more people.
  • Operation of machinery in the production process, operation of forklift.
  • Fast paced, high pressure, efficiency driven environment.
