Job Description

Coordinator, Accommodations & Food and BeverageAbout UsHalifax (Kjipuktuk) is hosting the 2023 North American Indigenous Games (NAIG 2023) from July 15 to 23, 2023. NAIG 2023 will welcome close to 5,000 Indigenous participants from across Turtle Island (North America) to participate in the largest multi-sport gathering in Atlantic Canada of Indigenous people since contact. NAIG 2023 will be supported by 3,000 volunteers in a celebration of Indigenous sport and culture across 16 sports and 8 days of cultural celebrations. NAIG 2023 is organized and executed by the NAIG 2023 Host Society, which is a not-for-profit organization and the employer of this opportunity.Our OpportunityNAIG 2023 is looking for two (2) Coordinators, Accommodations & Food and Beverage, reporting to the Manager, Athlete Services, are responsible for coordinating and delivering on many key areas that contribute to the athlete experience outside of sport, including accommodation, food service, medical, security, etc.Role and Responsibilities:The Role and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Working closely with the Manager, Athlete Services to develop and finalize the accommodation venue and participant services and coordinating the execution of those elements of the plan in a highly cross-functional, collaborative environment
  • Guiding and supporting enthusiastic, dedicated and high-functioning Venue Labor staff and venue volunteers who will execute the planning process for each venue
  • Contributing to a positive spectator/participant experience by supporting the development of venue procedures, food and beverage manuals, and accommodation logistics
  • Acting as a main contact with a variety of accommodation venue(s) across Halifax Regional Municipality
  • Collaborating effectively and continuously liaising and coordinating among and across the functional areas in order to achieve a cohesive planning and development process in the lead-up to the Games and to support operations and delivery of that plan during the Games
  • Being a fully engaged team member with a goal of positive and healthy relationships in the workplace
  • Executing all responsibilities in a manner which is consistent with the Mission, Vision, and Values of 2023 NAIG
  • Other duties as reasonably required. Due to the nature of our organization, and especially during the time leading up to, and during the actual Games, all staff will be required to act in capacities beyond their formal job description. These will always be reasonable, however, the expectation is that staff will step up in ways that may not normally be expected of them
Qualifications
  • Diploma or undergraduate degree in Sport Management, Business Administration, Recreation, Hospitality, or a related field
  • Two (2) or more years of work experience, or a combination or relevant education and work experience
  • Knowledge and experience working in a not-for-profit, events, sports, or multi-sport Games environment is an asset
  • Experience coordinating or delivering a large and/or multifaceted project or event,
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a large portfolio of relationships and projects
  • Demonstrated ability to build quality relationships with people and build trust through execution of duties at a high level
  • Strong writing and editing skills and an eye for detail
  • Strong ability to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, team environment where duties and reporting levels are shared
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a focus on attention to detail and communication of expectations
  • Experience working with Mi’kmaq/Indigenous communities and organizations; considered an asset
Working Conditions
  • Flexibility in hours, as there will be expectations for some evenings and weekends required
  • Own reliable transportation required, including a valid Class 5 license
  • A satisfactory criminal record check and Child Abuse Registry Check must be provided prior to the commencement of the contract
Work Status:Anticipated Start Date of October 17, 2022.Temporary full time contract up to July 2023.Hours of Work:35 hours a week and must be willing to work a flexible work schedule.Salary:$40,000 - $50,000 per annum.Closing Date:Applications will be received up to midnight on September 19, 2022Candidates are encouraged to self-identify in this recruitment process under any of the employment equity groups.
