Job Description

Coordinator, TransportationAbout UsHalifax (Kjipuktuk) is hosting the 2023 North American Indigenous Games (NAIG 2023) from July 15 to 23, 2023. NAIG 2023 will welcome close to 5,000 Indigenous participants from across Turtle Island (North America) to participate in the largest multi-sport gathering in Atlantic Canada of Indigenous people since contact. NAIG 2023 will be supported by 3,000 volunteers in a celebration of Indigenous sport and culture across 16 sports and 8 days of cultural celebrations. NAIG 2023 is organized and executed by the NAIG 2023 Host Society, who is a not-for-profit organization and the employer of this opportunity.Our OpportunityThe Transportation Coordinator is responsible for supporting the planning & delivery of the Transportation program for NAIG 2023 participants. The Coordinator will work in collaboration with the other Functional Areas to achieve the successful transportation of 5250 Games participants and additional guests of the games.Role and Responsibilities:

  • Consult with staff and Volunteers across the Host Society to support the development of the transportation program Games-Wide.
  • Coordinate and implement the transportation policies, procedures and systems pertaining to the following areas:
  • Athlete Transportation
  • Arrivals/Departures
  • Opening/Closing Ceremonies
  • Dispatch/Booking Systems
  • Honoured Guest/VIP Transportation
  • Vehicle Fleet Management
  • Provide support in the development and implementation of the Transportation schedules for deliveries, storage/warehousing for pre-games arrival of equipment/goods and a dispatch of items Games-Time.
  • Determine the availability, need and execution for any Vehicle Access and/or Parking Permit program
  • Support the Transportation Operation Centre
  • Develop and maintain relationships with transportation suppliers and key venue partners; act as a liaison between the functional area needs within transportation to ensure level of service is met
  • Coordinate any pre-Games event fleet/transportation requirements
  • Prepare and analyze reports to determine the effectiveness of the transportation program
  • Develop a comprehensive training program for Transportation Volunteers
  • Other duties as reasonably required. Due to the nature of our organization, and especially during the time leading up to, and during the actual Games, all staff will be required to act in capacities beyond their formal job description
Qualifications
  • Post secondary education in a related field and/or specialized training/education in project management and/or logistics
  • 2 or more years of experience in operations, logistics and/or transportation service industry
  • Valid Drivers License and vehicle; considered an asset
  • Working knowledge of regional transportation services, providers and contract development
  • Experience working on a logistics team for a large or multi-faceted project
  • French Language skills considered an asset
  • Experience working with Mi’kmaq/Indigenous communities and organizations; considered an asset
Working Conditions
  • Anticipated start date: December 5, 2022
  • Flexibility in hours, as there will be expectation for some evenings and weekends required
  • Own reliable transportation required, including a valid Class 5 license
  • Satisfactory criminal record check and Child Abuse Registry Check
