Job Description

ROLE:We are currently recruiting for an upcoming project in Conklin, AB for the winter months of 2022/2023. The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely operating Side Booms/Pipe Layers.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate various types of Side Booms/Pipe Layers to lift, move or place equipment or materials.
  • Connect and operate Side Boom/Pipe Layer attachments, including stringing stick, jib and winch, safely.
  • Operate equipment safely in various terrains such as steep slopes.
  • Determine rigging configuration and capacity.
  • Be aware of situation hazards, including blind spots, pinch points, road crossings, power lines, conflicting right-of-way traffic and proper use of tag lines.
  • Perform daily safety and maintenance inspections.
  • Perform routine pre-operation inspection and maintenance on equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair basic equipment problems.
  • Fill out equipment log books.
  • Clean, lubricate and refuel equipment.
  • Communicate with the equipment spotter to discuss hand signals, blind spots etc.
Note: In addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the company.POSITION REQUIREMENTS:Qualifications
  • Heavy Equipment Operator Certification is considered an asset.
  • Various safety tickets/certificates as required depending on project.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License is considered an asset.
Experience
  • Previous experience as a Side Boom/Pipe Layer Operator preferably in the pipeline construction industry.
  • Minimum of 2000 hours in heavy equipment operations.
  • Experience working in muskeg is considered an asset.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Ability to read locate sheets and possible underground and/or overhead utilities.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures including but not limited to backing up procedures, use of spotters, signage, incident reporting, required personal protective equipment and lifting of heavy loads.
  • Knowledge of boom and hoisting techniques.
  • Knowledge of equipment operation, cleaning and maintenance requirements.
  • Knowledge of pipeline construction industry.
WORKING CONDITIONS:This position is project/field based and often works within remote project locations. Travel and/or living in temporary accommodations is required. Must be able to work 6 days on / 1 day off, 12-hour shifts for the duration of the project.REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:The Heavy Equipment Operator reports to the crew Foreman. The position has no supervisory duties.Note:Preference is given to local candidates and those from surrounding Indigenous Communities.
