This role is based out of our Head Office in Coquitlam, BC Canada.The RoleAs a subject matter expert, you will partner with the Colleagues and Managers to build and promote a safe culture in the workplace. This is a hands-on role where you will also provide administrative support to our Health and Safety department. You will deliver on our customer promises, build strong relationships with key stakeholders, and continuously identify processes needing improvement - making a difference in a growth-oriented company. This position reports to the Human Resources Director.This position must work closely with the stores and the distribution centres. Travel across Canada is required for at least 50% of the time.

  • Create a Safe Work Environment
    • Act as a first point of contact for all Health and Safety matters across Canada.
    • Building on our current program, create a robust safety program – including safe work practices for the stores and distribution centres and safety protocols for renovations and/or new stores
    • Develop annual health and safety plans for the company based on a full review of health and safety-related needs (assessment of hazards, audits, changing legislation and best practices)
    • Partner with the managers to help maintain store, head office, and distribution centres that are safe, secure, and healthy environment for all colleagues and customers
    • Chair and participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee Meetings (Head Office)
  • Provide mentorship and guidance onsite
    • Regularly conduct store and warehouse visits and influence managers and Health & Safety team members ensuring they understand safety guidelines, address and promote safe behaviors, understanding of incident response and follow up.
    • Coach frontline Colleagues ensuring appropriate training is provided and all provincial safety regulations are understood, enforced and adhered to
  • Support Accident/Disability Management
    • Lead investigation of accidents and incidents (as needed) then respond appropriately as required
    • In consultation with managers, develop plans to reduce risks which can cause workplace incidents and injuries; provide data analysis and recommendations to senior leadership regarding trends, risks and risk mitigation
    • Working with other key stakeholders, manage WSIB/WCB/CNESST and other disability claims, including managing appeals where appropriate
  • Administrative Support
    • Maintain metrics and dashboard analytics of safety results, identify trends, track and monitor progress.
    • Partner with stores to manage and coordinate certification requirements – e.g. forklift and first aid
    • Track all incident and accident reports and other occupational health and safety information then using the data, make recommendations for change.

QualificationsWhat do you bring to the role
  • Minimum 5 years previous experience in a Safety Coordinator or Specialist role or combination of Degree, Diploma or Certification from a recognized Occupational Health & Safety program and work experience
  • Experience with applicable occupational health and safety regulations (across Canada), employee standards legislation and best practices is preferred
  • First Aid Certificate Level 2 is required (but we will train the right candidate)
  • Driver’s license in good standing
  • Must be authorized to work in Canada
  • Willing to travel nationally
