Job Description

The North Shore News has served the communities of North and West Vancouver for 52 years (2019 Canadian Community Newspaper Awards, Best All-Round Newspaper, circulation 25,000 and over). We tell stories of the people, businesses and culture of our area of approximately 200,000 residents. The North Shore News serves the District of North Vancouver, City of North Vancouver, District of West Vancouver, Metro Vancouver regional district, Squamish Nation, Tsleil-Waututh Nation and school districts 44 and 45, including readers from Lions Bay to Deep Cove.North Shore News has a rare opportunity for a talented, committed journalist to cover indigenous affairs, civics, community events and activities, local news, arts, culture and the outdoors, and to share this in print and across all social media platforms for Canada’s premier community news organization.We look for innovative ways to communicate with our readers across the digital space: website, social media, special publications and more. This is a great opportunity to help create and build a new way to reach our communities.As a Multimedia Reporter, you will cover local news with a focus on community stories, the local arts scene and outdoor recreation. Your content will be shared widely across the Glacier Media network.THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

  • Write and edit an average of 10 to 12 stories for print and online on a weekly basis.
  • Take photos and produce videos that are eye-catching, clear and engaging.
  • Generate interesting stories and feature ideas.
  • Participate in the growth of our digital offerings.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • A journalism degree, diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Monitor Google Trends, Crowdtangle and other tools to ID potential stories for coverage.
  • Assist newsroom colleagues in creating social posts across channels – including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and TikTok.
  • Proficiency in digital photography.
  • Knowledge of CP style.
  • Must be willing and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Weekend and some evening reporting will be required.
ASSETS
  • Knowledge of digital technologies and experience with video.
  • Knowledge of search engine optimization.
  • Experience and knowledge of social media platforms.
  • An interest in arts/current events and experience in municipal council meeting coverage.
