The Tenant Advocate assists tenants to preserve their housing and where the current housing situation is untenable s/he assists the tenant to seek new housing ensuring that the tenant has accessed all government and other supports for which they may qualify. This is an HSA Bargaining Unit Position and requires Union membership.Summary of Duties:Meet with potential clients to gather information about their housing situation, assess their resources/options, provide information and referrals, education about tenant rights and responsibilities, outline options, support the client to plan for a resolution of their crisis.Assist the client to negotiate issues with the landlord, support with applications and hearings with the Residential Tenancy Branch.Assist the client with tenancy search, where needed accompany clients to viewings and assisting with conversations with landlords.Document services, prepare timely applications, resource materials and reports.Maintain working relationships with related community agencies.Qualifications Required:Diploma in a field related to Social Work, Community Development, Mental Health, Housing or related areas;Minimum 2 years’ experience in program coordination;Knowledge of community and regional resources an asset;Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills;Strong organizational, oral and written communication skills;Extensive problem-solving skills working from a client centered, strength-based perspective.Location: 3020 Lincoln Avenue, CoquitlamHours of Work: 35 hours per week, Monday – FridayStart /End date: Immediately until March 31, 2022Compensation: $23.10 - $26.91, JJEP Grid Level 11.
