The medical travel clerk will improve administrative efficiencies, prepare travel documentation for review by the supervisor, answer telephones, provide support to travelers, complete and file paperwork and liaise with In-Territory and Out-of-Territory case managers.The medical travel clerk, liaising with the Supervisor and Director of Health Programs concerning medical travel approvals and appeals, will prepare travel documents (medical travel referral forms) for review, verify travel documents are completed correctly with appropriate signatures and forward to the regional medical travel office, notify clients of upcoming appointments and travel arrangements, troubleshoot medical travel issues such as cancelled flights and cancelled appointments, file paperwork, pull charts, organize appointment notifications and record keeping, and complete medical travel evacuation paperwork. The medical travel clerk must maintain confidentiality of all travelers.The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through completion of Grade 10, and two (2) years’ clerical experience providing direct customer service. Fluency in Inuktut and English is required. Knowledge of the Nunavut health care system and medical travel issues as well as computer skills, effective communication skills and ability to work within tight timelines will be beneficial for this position.The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position.
