Job Description

Job DescriptionWe are seeking a meticulous and adaptable Payroll Accountant to join a mission-driven non-profit organization in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. This newly created, permanent role will be essential for managing payroll processing for a diverse team of 350-400 employees, including hourly, casual, and salaried workers, many of whom are unionized health care professionals.With a new payroll software implementation planned for 2025, this position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to process improvements and system enhancements.Key Responsibilities for the Job:

  • Manage full-cycle biweekly payroll processing, including time review and entries
  • Process payroll for a workforce that includes hourly, casual, and salaried employees
  • Ensure accurate payroll deductions and administration for RRSP, pension, and other benefits
  • Administer benefits and handle new hire setup within the payroll system
  • Generate payroll reports and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate on the upcoming transition to a new, efficient payroll software system
  • Other related duties and projects as assigned
Skillsamp; Attributes for Success:
  • Post secondary education in accounting, business administration, or other related field
  • Completed PCP designation is an asset
  • 3 – 4+ years’ experience processing payroll for large groups (200+ employees), ideally in unionized environments
  • Dedicated attention to detail with an appreciation for accuracy in payroll
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work under deadlines
  • Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively within a team
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities
