Job Description

The Ultra manufacturing function is responsible for the manufacture, integration and test of a wide range of products and systems providing innovative capabilities for our customers.Production management in Ultra manage and coordinate all activities associated with manufacturing and production to ensure maximum effectiveness is achieved for the production of quality products within a specified time and budgetary guidelines. Operations Production Management is accountable to ensure products meet or exceed customer quality standards and required delivery schedules are met. A professional at this grade possesses knowledge for specific fields and performs structured work assignments. Uses established procedures to solve problems by making judgments and gets work done with quality under moderate supervision. Has limited discretion to vary from established procedures.The Sonobuoy Team Leader directly reports to the Production Manager-Sonobuoys and is responsible for managing, motivating and leading a group of Production Team Operators. The Sonobuoy Team Leader position is responsible for the communication, monitoring and delivering of customer deliverables and well as Quality and Health and Safety policies and procedures.

  • Provides encouragement to team members, including communicating team goals and identifying areas for new training or job assessments, working with the Training Co-ordinator to develop and execute a yearly training plan for each employee.
  • Assists the Production Manager with hiring processes and the Charge Hands/ Training Co-ordinator with the delivering of training.
  • Leads team meetings to update members on best practices and continuing expectations
  • Plans workforce scheduling and advises Production Manger on staffing issues that directly impacts the Production Plan.
  • Answers team member questions, helps with team member problems, and oversees team member work for quality and guideline compliance
  • Assists HR in the administration of benefits and hiring procedures.
  • Executes production plan by working with the Charge Hands to schedule and assign employees, meeting production targets and resolving issues with support of the Production Support Team.
  • Maintains workflow through monitoring process steps and material supermarkets and adjusts run rates and material flows as required to keep productivity maximized while maintaining minimum inventory levels.
  • Resolves personnel problems by through conflict resolution and mediation. Works closely with the union and HR, resolving medical and performance issues and concerns following the terms of the collective agreement.
  • Takes a lead role in health and safety compliance and promotes a positive safety culture and leads incident investigations including interviewing of employees involved, recording and taking pictures of equipment and the incident site. Recording and tracking of corrective actions.
  • Act as an advocate and supporter of change management to assist employees to adapt as the organizations transforms.
  • Provide daily updates on performance, downtime and quality issues or concerns. Leads daily work centre scrums and provides updates at the weekly sonobuoy scrum.
Required Skills:
  • Post-secondary education in business, manufacturing, engineering or engineering technology or relevant supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 5+ years leading and supervising teams in a manufacturing environment
  • The successful person must be able to gain the appropriate Canadian government security clearance and satisfy all requirements to be able to work on Canadian Controlled Goods projects
