Bird is a place where you will unlock your potential and achieve your goals.Reporting to the Senior Project Accountant, the Project Accountant will be responsible for assisting in the day-to-day financial management of the project portfolio. They will work closely with project staff to ensure the projects #39; successful financial delivery. The primary focus will be on projects utilizing partnership arrangements and Integrated Project Delivery agreements.This position is open to candidates based in Winnipeg, MB or Edmonton, AB.What You Will Be Working On

  • Work closely with the project team in delivering relevant financial info and submittals.
  • Review cost and billing reports to ensure proper management of cost codes, contract items, charge-out rates, and markups.
  • Prepare and submit journal entries to ensure appropriate alignment of costs on the project and assist with financial closing processes.
  • Resolve billing discrepancies and issues to facilitate quick turnaround time on necessary revisions.
  • Evaluate and compile expense reports as backup for cost reimbursable billings.
  • Perform self-assessment of PST for projects in applicable provinces.
  • Compile labour, equipment, material, sub-trade (LEMS) and prepare monthly progress billings and backups to client.
  • Conduct regular cost reviews and reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies or variances.
  • Review project recoveries for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Support project closeout processes.
  • Ensure that month-end deadlines and reporting requirements are met.
  • Identify and resolve project finance inconsistencies and issues with project teams.
  • Support the accounting team as needed, along with ad-hoc requests and projects as assigned.
What We Are Looking For
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field of study, including accounting and business
  • Actively working towards accounting designation is considered an asset
  • 2+ years of accounting experience.
  • Solid understanding of project accounting, cost reports and experience dealing with operations
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Knowledge of Viewpoint Vista/TC1, 4castplus, InEight, OnBase, and/or Prophix is an asset
  • Industrial and public company experience an asset
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities; capable of handling pressure and challenges
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and prioritization of work to achieve them
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Highly developed interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency and a strong commitment to achieving goals; ability to work in a challenging, fast-paced environment
