Job Description

  • University degree in business administration, public administration, environmental science, economics, political science or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in a combination of policy development, project and/or program planning and delivery, strategic and operational business planning, environmental impact analysis and systems working with corporate performance measures and budgets, and/or business case development preferably related to circular economy
  • Proven ability in research and quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Ability to critically analyze issues, synthesize and collate research and large amounts of data to inform decision making, and recommend viable, creative, and effective solutions
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize, manage, and lead various programs with competing deadlines
  • Strong technical acumen, including experience writing reports
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to engage with community partners
  • Ability to work with a high degree of independent judgment, and to succeed both independently as well as part of a larger team
  • Experience assessing and developing policy to support a circular economy including metric development is considered an asset
  • Knowledge and/or experience with commercial waste management planning/sustainability management, lifecycle assessment (LCA) and Material flow Accounting (MFA) is considered an asset
  • Knowledge and/or experience using environmental tools such as market based, voluntary stewardship and cooperative agreements is considered an asset
  • Leadership and project management experience within a public sector environment are an asset
  • Knowledge of the functional capabilities of the various services and facilities of the Waste Management Utility considered an asset
  • Willingness and ability to occasionally work outside regular working hours (evenings and weekends)
  • Proficient in Google Workspace, and the ability to learn and adapt to evolving technology
