For more information, follow Telesat on X and LinkedIn or visit www.telesat.comThe purpose of this role is to provide technical expertise in the development, demonstration, integration, test and diagnostic of user terminal hardware, software and systems related to the development of LEO Constellation.MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES- As a member of the User Terminal team, you will be responsible for the testing of antennas, RF equipment and modem technology for development, demonstration and type approval process;- Implement, diagnosis, operate and troubleshoot terminals and subsystems for GEO and LEO networks- Interface with manufacturers of LEO user terminal modems and antenna systems to drive requirements, solutions, identify gaps and risk mitigation plans- Work in close collaboration with Telesat #39;s systems engineering and technical product management teams to ensure seamless integration of terminal functionality and performance within the complete system and according to product roadmaps- Identify technical compliance testing and product assurance requirements for manufacturing and qualification of LEO user terminals- Monitor technical compliance and quality of product produced by manufactures of LEO user terminals- Recommend and contribute to improvements to LEO system as a whole- On-site management of lab equipment and setting up portable demo equipment- Perform routine aspects of assignments requiring knowledge and application of engineering principles.- Complete tasks assigned on time and to high level of quality.- Assist the User Terminal team with the documentation, review and deployment of the Telesat Lightspeed constellation ground infrastructure.EDUCATIONamp; EXPERIENCE- B. Sc. Engineering or similar degree and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in satellite communication with an emphasis on satellite terminals- Solid work experience testing and deploying in lab or field environments modems, RF equipment, ACUs and antennas for satellite communications- Experience providing technical guidance in-person and remotely to troubleshoot issues and provide short-term and long-term solutionsSpecialized Knowledge, Skills and Abilities- Knowledge of state-of-the-art modem, RF, electronics and antenna technology, implementation, operation and diagnostics- Understanding of Ku, Ka and L-band connectivity and network fundamentals- Knowledge of networking technologies and telecom services including protocol acceleration, traffic management, firewalls, VPN and security related hardware and software- Awareness of satellite terminal regulatory requirements.- Awareness of legal and regulatory requirements related to testing and deployment of equipment across many global jurisdictions.- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with management, engineering teams and partner/suppliers.- Experience in dealing with business considerations and practical limitations related to system design and implementation.- Fluent in English, written and oral- Experience working with outsourced and internal delivery teams- Experience working with geographically dispersed teams- Ability and desire to travel internationally for business purposes- Experience and understanding of mobile telecommunications systems or satellite communications systems;- Experience with MEO or LEO Ka-Band technologies a plusDECISION MAKINGamp; SUPERVISION- Self-motivation and the drive to take on varied tasks through toconclusion- The ability to work well with a diverse team spread around the world- Ability to describe technical solutions in an easily readable, concise and accurate way- Will need to execute in areas of ambiguity and make reasonable decisions in execution of test environments while adhering to all regulatory and certification processesSupervision Exercised- This role has no direct reports, but will work and interact with multi-disciplinary engineering, contracts, legal, and commercial teams.WORKING CONDITIONS- This position will be based out of the Telesat Bethesda, MD or Ottawa, ON office- Working conditions are generally comfortable typical of an office environment.- Occasional international travel is anticipated.The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP).At Telesat, we take pride in being an equal opportunity employer that values equality in the workplace.
