Job Description

The Municipality of North Cowichan (population 31,900) is located in the beautiful Cowichan Valley on Southern Vancouver Island, between Nanaimo and Victoria. If you are self-motivated, looking to take on a new challenge where you can make a difference, enjoy both responsibility and accountability with one of British Columbias most inclusive and environmentally conscious municipalities, we look forward to receiving your application!Reporting to the Customer Relations Clerk 2, the Coordinating Clerk is required to perform clerical duties as required, as well as provide guidance, leadership, direction and coordination of work for the Customer Relations Clerk 1 positions at our front desk operations at our recreation facilities, including the Cowichan Aquatic Centre, Fuller Lake Arena, or satellite locations.This position is integral for the delivery of excellence in all facets of the front desk and reception operation and in supporting the provision and on-going development of all programs and services for the complex. The hours of work will include weekends, evenings and shift work. Deployment to other duties may be required from time to time.Required Skills, Qualifications and Abilities:

  • Completion of Grade 12.
  • Completion of formal clerical training from a recognized program and a minimum of two (2) years of related experience, or recognized equivalent of education and experience, plus one (1) year of experience providing leadership support and direction to front desk or clerical employees including the following duties, or duties of a similar nature: amending work schedules, addressing employee concerns, and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrable keyboarding skills, with a minimum speed of 50 wpm. Proof of typing speed or assessment results from the last 24 months must be included with your application. If you require information on where to obtain a typing/keyboarding speed test, please contact yourhr@northcowichan.ca.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Class 5 B.C. Drivers Licence; a satisfactory current drivers abstract will be required.
  • Superior skills and abilities related to the delivery of customer service, communication (oral, written and non-verbal), public relations and problem solving.
  • Sound knowledge and demonstrable skills in a Windows-driven network system, including Microsoft Office programs, or comparable programs.
  • Experience in using Recreation software (PerfectMind).
  • Demonstrable proficiency in social media, including creating content in Hootsuite.
  • Demonstrable ability to operate office equipment.
  • Sound knowledge of basic accounting principles and ability to accurately complete financial transactions, including preparing requisitions for supplies, materials, equipment and sales merchandise, and planning for efficient operation with good cashiering and cash management skills.
  • Strong independence of judgment while working under minimal supervision; recognizing and addressing liability risks.
  • Working knowledge of and commitment to WorkSafeBC regulations and safety procedures and other related regulatory requirements as related to the safe operation of an aquatic and fitness facility.
  • Demonstrable ability to adapt quickly, effectively prioritize and accurately complete a variety of tasks.
