Job Description

General Information:The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications for the regular full time Water/Wastewater Labourer position in the Utilities Division within the Operations Department. Reporting to the Manager, Utilities Operations the Water/Wastewater Labourer is responsible for hands on physical work assisting Utilities Operators and the Electrical & Instrumentation Technician in the operation and routine maintenance of water and wastewater systems. This work requires versatility, heavy lifting, and manual dexterity.Qualifications:

  • Diploma in, or currently enrolled in, a certified Water/Wastewater Operators Program=
  • Electrical training would be considered an asset
  • One-year recent relevant experience in one of the following disciplines: Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Wastewater Treatment or Wastewater Collection
  • Ability to write EOCP Operator-in-Training in one of the following disciplines: Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Wastewater Treatment or Wastewater Collection
  • Valid First Aid Level 1 with CPR
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
  • Confined Space Rescue Training (provided by the employer)
  • WHMIS Certification Training (provided by the employer)

Flex time and a comprehensive benefits package are offered with this position.Salary:This unionized position (USW Local 1-1937) is a regular full time position, and is compensated at Step 1 Rate of $27.94 and a Step 2 Rate of $29.62 per hour (2023 rates) plus payment for specified certifications of $0.40/hr for Level I, $0.65/hr for Level II, and $0.80/hour for Level III for current water and wastewater certificates.Application Instructions:Please submit a resume and cover letter by 4:30 p.m. on the closing date indicated above.Quick Apply
