Job Description

The Municipality of North Cowichan (population 31,900) is located in the beautiful Cowichan Valley on Southern Vancouver Island, between Nanaimo and Victoria. Our communities of Chemainus, Crofton, Maple Bay, and the South End are home to a multitude of artistic, cultural and outdoor recreational activities. The Municipality provides a stable and varied work environment, competitive pay and benefits.We invite applications from candidates with the proven skills, qualifications and abilities for the position of Human Resources Administrative Assistant on a temporary, full-time basis for up to 24 months. This position will provide confidential administrative support to the Human Resources and Health & Safety Department, and may include duties relating to any of the following: employee and labour relations; recruitment; pension and benefits; health and safety; disability management; training and development; internal communications; and employee recognition and engagement.Required Skills, Qualifications and Abilities:

  • Successful completion of formal relevant training (e.g. Applied Business Technology program at Vancouver Island University) and two (2) years of experience in an office environment.
  • Priority will be given to those with education and/or experience in the field of human resources.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and considerable skill in providing a high level of customer service.
  • Experience in taking minutes will be considered an asset.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office programs, specifically intermediate to advanced ability in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • A high level of attention to detail and the ability to perform work efficiently and accurately.
  • Superior communication skills - both written and verbal.
  • Ability to exercise substantial discretion and deal with sensitive and confidential information.
  • Excellent work ethic.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Class 5 B.C. Drivers License; a satisfactory current drivers abstract will be required.
  • Demonstrable keyboarding skills, with a minimum speed of 60 wpm. Proof of typing speed or assessment results from the last 24 months must be included with your application. If you require information on where to obtain a typing/keyboarding speed test, please contact yourhr@northcowichan.ca.
