Job Description

Overview:Earthworks ForemanSureway Construction is one of Alberta’s largest heavy construction contractors, with 49 years’ experience, involved in; civil earthworks and grading, utilities and offsite, mine operation and aggregate extraction.We offer: Benefits, RRSP/TFSA MatchingJob Type: Full Time, Project-basedLOA/Travel: TBDSchedule: 12+ hours per day, 10 & 4, OT after 8hr/day or 44hr/week, DAY or NIGHT shift availableLocation: EDSON: Westmoreland Coal Valley Mine (approx.1 hour south of Edson, AB)Essential: Hard-working, reliable, ability to work in physically demanding conditions, safety consciousScope:

  • Reclamation of previously mined coal pits including:
    • Grading, sloping and contouring of previous pits
    • Salvage and placement of final reclamation material on landscaped areas
    • Support operations, road construction, road maintenance, etc.
Requirements:
  • Minimum five (5) years Civil /Earthworks Foreman experience
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (non GDL)
  • Clean Driving Record
  • CSA approved steel toed boots with 6” ankle support
Pre-employment:
  • Drug and alcohol testing (urine or swab-based test)
  • Successful completion of Company Orientation and site-specific orientation
Earthworks Foreman Responsibilities:
  • Oversee, supervise and manage crew, including equipment operators and labourers
  • Ensure schedules and timelines are met
  • Work with project management to schedule and coordinate tasks
  • Ensure equipment is maintained at the highest standards, in a timely manner
  • Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture

Earthworks Foreman Qualifications:
  • Minimum five (5) years Civil or Industrial Foreman.
  • In depth knowledge of construction procedures, equipment and OHS guidelines.
  • Ability to read drawings, plans and blueprints.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership with the ability to communicate and report effectively.
  • Recognizes and understands the safe operation of heavy equipment and material handling.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Committed to working in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Engineering Technology degree/diploma considered an asset.
