Job Description

Opportunity SummaryAs essential members of the team, you are responsible for the overall safe, reliable and efficient operation of the power generating facility. You will rely on your extensive knowledge and experience in the operation of power generation or related industrial system equipment to provide hands-on responsibility for starting, stopping and monitoring of all plant equipment. Your familiarity and use of Distributed Control System (DCS) equipment, condition monitoring tools and proven equipment inspection techniques will be a critical asset for success. As part of an O&M team you will be expected to contribute to the overall success by supporting predictive, preventative and corrective maintenance activities.Primary Functions

  • Responsible for achieving the goals defined as part of the incentive compensation targets
  • Supports the plant team in maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction
  • Supports the Operations and Maintenance managers in developing and achieving O&M plan targets
  • Responsible for maintaining good relationships with suppliers and contractors and for ensuring that deliveries made to the plant and work done at the plant is performed safely and expediently
  • Takes an active role in supporting work done at the facility, including working with suppliers and contractors to complete tasks
  • Maintains real time communications with the grid operator, Energy Trading and the ISO to ensure compliance with dispatch and system control
  • Supports the development of community relations by living the NAES corporate policies and values on a daily basis
  • Supports the development key performance indicators based on equipment knowledge. Works to achieve targets through innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Supports the development of long-range equipment plans by proactively identifying areas for improvement and provides operational information and feedback in the planning process of the major maintenance plan
  • Takes responsibility for an assigned system or area to be managed during planned maintenance outages to ensure necessary work is addressed
  • Takes pride of ownership of tools used in daily activities and PM work and other work so as to retain usefulness and value of the plant’s tools and equipment
  • Supports the development of risk management practices based on knowledge of equipment history and maintenance findings
  • Holds primary responsibility for the implementation and management of safe work systems in the facility including, but not limited to, LOTO, confined space, hot work, and work authorization
  • Responsible for operating and managing the environmental regulatory monitoring systems to the highest standard of compliance and accuracy
  • Understand the inventory system and procedures and participates in stock taking when required
  • Understands the fundamentals of ARS (NERC) standards and fulfills operational roles required
  • Supports the development of standards and procedures for quality assurance in area of expertise and contributes to audits, inspects and assessments for continuous improvement
  • Responsible for understanding the chart of accounts and ensuring transactions are booked against the appropriate account and cost codes
  • Must understand and properly apply purchasing guidelines when required
  • Required to understand and utilize IT systems within the organization and be fully competent with the CMMS and document management systems for normal daily work and historical record keeping
  • Provides information for internal and external reporting purposes in a timely and concise manner
  • Maintains site security as required by monitoring access to plant physical and cyber barriers and reporting any apparent breaches on a real time basis
  • Other related duties as assigned by your team leader
Physical Requirements and Working ConditionsPhysical requirements include the possibility of standing for extended periods as well as stair and ladder climbing. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.).Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions.All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.Required Qualifications
  • You possess a Second Class Inter-Provincial Power Engineering Certificate. Individuals having a Third Class Power Engineering certificate with extensive power generation plant experience may also be considered
  • In addition, a related Technology or Trade Certification would be an asset.
Experience & Attributes
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years progressive work experience in power generation or related large industrial facilities
  • Additional experience with machinery inspection or repair, and experience with control systems preferred
  • Knowledge of the types of equipment installed, derived through combination of hands-on experience and formal training performed in the manufacturer’s factory and/or at the job site
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability to safely operate hand tools, test equipment and calibration appliances
  • Ability to respond calmly and think clearly in emergency situations
  • Must be able to visually read and respond to computer-generated data, instrumentation, gauges, readouts, and variations in colors
  • Must have manual dexterity required to operate keyboards, pushbuttons, dials, valves, and mechanical actuating devices
  • Advanced knowledge in electrical systems and use of Distributive Control Systems in the operation of a power generating facility preferred
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
