Job Description

We are looking for a Lawyer (hybrid, full time, permanent position with flexible (home/office) work arrangements) with a minimum of three (3) plus years of criminal and family law experience to join our team at the Estevan area office.Why work for usIn addition to your competitive salary, our generous and comprehensive benefit package includes employer’s paid extended health & dental family coverage; paid sick time; three weeks of paid vacation at the start, plus earned days off (26 per year for support staff and 15 per year for lawyers); 14 Statutory holidays; pension match 6.35%; relocation assistance if applicable and more.ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Legal Director, some of the key responsibilities of the Lawyer are:

  • Conduct of assigned files to professional standards and in accordance with the policies and procedures of Legal Aid Saskatchewan & the Law Society of Saskatchewan.
  • Conduct preliminary inquiries, pre-trials, case conferences, trials, reviews & appeals.
  • Negotiate competent resolutions of files to achieve fair, early and lasting outcomes for clients.
  • Represent clients at bail hearings, guilty pleas and remands both in-person and remotely.
  • Work independently on cases as assigned by the Legal Director.
  • Complete and accurate time entry and record keeping.
Position Requirements
  • Experience in criminal law.
  • Experience in family law.
  • Law degree from a recognized law school.
  • Member in good standing with the Law Society of Saskatchewan.
  • Valid Driver’s License – Class 5.
  • Technologically savvy with a keen enthusiasm for learning new systems including, computer literacy in MS Office, web-based legal research tools, and other web-based resources.
  • Commitment to social justice and an understanding of the needs and challenges faced by low-income and marginalized communities.
  • Demonstrated time management and ability to deal with conflicting priorities and deadlines.
  • Successful candidate will be required to provide an acceptable criminal record check.
