JOB DESCRIPTIONSummary Description:We are now seeking a Mining Systems Specialist to join our Engineering Team at Westmoreland Mining LLC.Accountable to the Mining Systems Supervisor, this permanent role is responsible for providing support, system planning, and troubleshooting for the mine site communications networks and mining systems technology, specifically radio systems that provide a wireless network for mining systems. This also includes other site technology consisting of survey equipment, fuel monitoring systems and other site-specific systems. This role will be based at one of Westmoreland’s large sites located in either Southern Saskatchewan (Canada) or Eastern Montana (USA).Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Provide support, system planning and troubleshooting for the onsite networking infrastructure, specifically radio systems. This will include Mesh networks of the following name brands such as Rajant, MotoMesh and Cambium radio systems. These systems support High and low precision GPS Guidance system consisting of Caterpillar, Carlson, and other technology.Provide support, system planning and troubleshooting for Pegasys dragline production systems.Provide system administration for the Rajant, MotoMesh and Cambium Radio networks.Work with CAT MineStar/Edge, Carlson Grade, and others running over a mesh network to ensure reliable wireless communications exist across the mine to allow effective Fleet Management System coverage.Provide hands-on first level support for troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of on-board hardware, including machine navigators/G610’s, GPS receivers, fixed radios, mobile solar trailers, and base stations.Inspect communications and electronic systems hardware to ensure compliance with statutory requirements as well as business needs.Analyze equipment failure trends and recommend replacement equipment and components.Communicate effectively with Mining systems vendors and contractors to assist sites with planning, purchasing and repairing of equipment.Provide training and support for site mining systems technology to onsite technicians.Monitor Mine site systems locally and remotely to ensure performance is up to company standards and actively seek opportunities for continuous improvement.Will require flexibility to travel to sites for onsite support.Will require flexibility to occasionally travel on short notice for day trips and overnight travel.May require periods of on-call duty as needed.JOB REQUIREMENTSMinimum Qualifications and Skills:2-3 years’ experience in an electrical/communication/mesh networking roleWillingness to learn new concepts, processes, and skillsets.Proficient level of computer skillsProficient Level of computer networking tools (PowerShell, Telnet, SSH, RDP, Serial, CAN)Would prefer basic knowledge of IT networking and related skills.Would prefer basic knowledge of servers and server environments.Basic understanding of radio/wireless concepts and protocols.Experience with hands on field work including installing and mounting hardware, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems on equipment.Experience with a Fleet Management systems i.e. MineStar, EDGE, Modular, Jigsaw, FARAExperience with precision GPS mining systems or equivalent i.e. Caterpillar Terrain, Carlson Grade, Wenco Mining systems.Experience with hand Surveying systems (Radio’s, Repeaters, Base stations, Data Collectors and GPS receivers).Strong written and oral communication skills to interface with customers and vendors.
