Job Description

In less than a decade, Magnum became one of the leading solutions for primary and remedial cementing services in North America. Now poised to also serve our customers’ soil stabilization, vac and water, and downhole tool needs, Magnum is well-positioned to provide expertise in all the services that we offer.Under the direction of the Quality Assurance Manager, the Technical Field Specialist will be responsible for gaining experience and knowledge in the areas of research and development, cement job design and simulation, safety, training, lab, operations, electronics and dispatch. This position provides support and assists as directed in pre-planning, job execution and post job analysis in the delivery of cementing services. This role is responsible for conducting experiments, performing tests and providing results, analysis and reporting.Job Responsibilities

  • Gain working knowledge of technical departments that support field operations involved in primary and remedial cementing services.
  • Gain work experience of cement pumping equipment and field operations.
  • Perform assignments requiring knowledge and application of basic engineering principles.
  • Maintain and update technical and scheduling documentation for engineering and operational projects.
  • Research and drive process improvement to improve operational efficiency out on location.
  • Research new technology within the oilfield industry and report on findings as well as provide recommendation on research undertaken.
  • Develop, update, and drive continuous improvement in operational training program (competency training).
  • Develop, update, and drive continuous improvement in dispatch processes (coordination of operations).
  • Assist in the design of cement jobs programs (primary, remedial).
  • Analyze data and provide reports to engineering and sales divisions; recalculating formulas as required.
  • Provide engineering expertise to resolve technical problems, including identifying potential improvements to job design, using performance tracking of equipment and materials.
  • Interact with departments or external clients to meet specific requests; provide high level of customer service.
  • Manage project record keeping (e.g. daily reports) and assist in technical writing as directed.
  • Study and interpret cementing job execution, report issues and assist in planning safe processes for cementing.
  • Review and establish Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)/Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs) to ensure operations is working in a safe manner.
  • Assist with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Leading and Lagging indicator trending, and Safety Statistics.
  • Participate in safety meetings for operations.
  • Participate in training and development activities.
  • Other related duties as required.
Qualifications - Required
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or Petroleum engineering, equivalent technical diploma, or combination of education and experience.
  • Good organizational and time management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities or projects and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Office).
  • Physically capable of moving/lifting heavy objects up to 23 kg., bending, standing, gripping, sitting/driving, walking, and climbing repeatedly for extended periods.
  • Able to work outdoors for extended periods of time and in all types of weather conditions.
  • Able to be on call 24 hours on a 15 days on a 6 days off rotational schedule, remaining fit for duty at all times (subject to change due to market conditions and seasonal requirements). Alternative schedule will be 5 days on 2 off based on business needs.
  • Able to work in congested or confined areas, and with exposure to loud noises and vibration.
  • Legally eligible to work in the country the role is based out of.

Qualifications - Assets
  • Class 1 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Previous experience in oilfield operations.
