We strive to find and nurture extraordinary employees who bring their best each day.If you are interested in working in higher education and are looking to contribute to the largest polytechnic College in Ontario, as we shape the future of our students and communities, here is your opportunity to join our team.Please review Humber College/ Guelph Humber vaccination policy prior to applying to this position.Job DetailsPosition Title: Placement Advisor, PWC and TESLStatus: Regular Part-Time SupportHours: 24 hours per weekFaculty/Department: Liberal Arts and Sciences - Centre for Education, Language & Professional Practice (CELPP)Campus: North CampusPayband/Hourly Rate Range: EPEW 09 $34.69- $40.20What you will do:Under the direction of the Associate Deans for the Department of English and the Centre for Education, Language and Professional Practice (CELPP), the Placement Advisor, PWC and TESL plays a key role in student employment success for two Humber Graduate Certificate programs: Professional Writing and Communications (PWC) and Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL).The incumbent is responsible for:

• Facilitating professional practice workshops;
• Providing students with feedback on their resumes and interview skills, and supporting them through the job search process for their work placement (PWC) or practicums (TESL).
• Facilitating the collection, tracking, reviewing, and reporting of placement documents, in addition to supervising students while completing work placement or practicum hours.
• Using a collaborative team approach, the incumbent will also assist with job development, contribute to career events, build/maintain relationships with employers and industry partners, and maintain a database of contacts.
• This role will include other duties as assigned by the Associate Deans, Department of English and CELPP.

What you bring to the role:Education

• The successful candidate will hold a 4-year degree or equivalent.
• A post-graduate credential in professional writing and communications, TESL, or a related field is considered a strong asset.

Experience

• Minimum of two (2) years of work experience in student advising or support roles.

Skills

• Exceptional administrative, interpersonal, communication and organization skills as well as the ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision are essential.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, exercise good judgement, work with significant interruptions, and resolve conflicts.
• Preference will go to applicants with work experience in either of the fields of professional writing or second language education.
