You will inspire, challenge, and mentor talented young people, developing them into confident, capable professionals. You will work in a supportive and collegial environment to help build, maintain, and enhance a highly successful program.You will teach picture editing and mastering at an intermediate and senior level, using Avid’s Media Composer and Black Magic’s Davinci Resolve as well as supervise the postproduction on all senior productions from ingest through mastering and delivery. You will have a thorough familiarity with both software platforms, and a deep understanding of professional postproduction workflow, including set documentation, the DIT/DMT role, proxy generation, ingest, syncing, bin and file management, scene, take and timecode metadata, script integration, intermediate exports for VFX, post audio and titling, prep/export for conform, conform and grading prep, integration of VFX and titles, and their coordination with the grading process, final mastering and preparation for DCP mastering.As an experienced editor, you will communicate the judicious management of editorial pacing, story arc, character development, POV, implicit/explicit voice, music cue placement, as well as technical considerations such as eyeline, axis, continuity, and eye trace. You will also familiarize students with different pixel resolutions, colour depths, aspect ratios and codecs used in shooting, editing and delivery. As well you will also aid students in the development of their postproduction schedules, helping them anticipate roadblocks and bottlenecks, organize the use of outside facilities and resources such as stock footage, and manage the post process to ensure delivery on schedule according to the deliverables spec.The incumbent will teach, develop curriculum, design/revise specific courses, create an effective and innovative learning environment for our students, assess student progress and achievement; work collaboratively with colleagues, participate in committees and related associations. The incumbent will also support student advising, student recruitment, graduate placement, assist with the promotion and marketing of programs and develop and maintain strong industry ties.What you bring to the roleEducationThe successful candidate will have a postgraduate degree, MA or MFA preferred, in a film and/or media production related discipline.Experience and SkillsIndustry acumen and five (5) years of related industry experience as a Storyteller in screen-based media and experience with Movie Magic is required, demonstrated ability to teach a number of courses offered by the college, along with specialized skills in the following areas:

  • Experience in Post-Production and/or Post Sound (Picture preferred)
  • Ability to teach a number of courses in addition to Production Management
  • Demonstrated administrative experience managing information and timelines to prioritize and track multiple projects to meet a demanding workload
  • Experience with a range of production industry-standard software such as Avid Media Composer & Pro Tools, Adobe After Effects & Premiere, and DaVinci Resolve is essential.
In addition, the successful candidate will have engaged and effective teaching skills, demonstrated ability to coach and support students, demonstrated experience managing classroom dynamics, strong knowledge and application of current pedagogical principles, a student focused approach and a demonstrated commitment to fostering innovation and positive change.
