Job Description

Underwriter - Developer SuretyOur partner is an independently owned, Canadian MGA, providing risk insurance and surety products. They are looking for a senior underwriter to share their mission of delivering exceptional service.RoleAs a crucial member of the underwriting team, you will be responsible for maintaining high levels of service with solutions-oriented approach, and identifying opportunities to upsell products. You will be contributing to the expansion of our partner’s brand, and grow the business with existing and new broker partners.Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain a network of relationships with brokers and various markets
  • Serve as key contact on assigned portfolio of accounts
  • Qualify customers’ financial, technical, and organizational capacity within our partner’s appetite against the business opportunity, in accordance with department policies and procedures
  • Produce and underwrite new and existing contract surety business
  • Provide detailed recommendations of bond and account support by conducting financial and credit analysis
  • Make decisions and approve bonds within account or underwriting authority
  • Negotiate account and/or bond-specific terms and conditions
  • Monitor current portfolio and assist with peer audits on an ongoing basis to ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines
  • Stay up to date with industry and market trends
  • Participate in team meetings to provide updates related to assigned portfolio of accounts, brokers, market intelligence, etc.
Requirements
  • 4 years of underwriting experience
  • University degree/college diploma or equivalent experience
  • High level of customer service and proven success in building and maintaining effective business relationships
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate contract language
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
