Addiction and Mental Health Worker, Community Homes for OpportunityFull-Time, Contract (approximately 4 months)Exeter and Parkhill, Ontario- Application Deadline: August 4, 2022 -Every person in our community has the right to safe, affordable, quality housing and to live with dignity and as much independence and choice as possible.Our Community Homes for Opportunity (CHO) program lives this ideal by providing mental health and addictions supports to CHO Homes, and encouraging residents to become active members of their community.As a member of the CHO Team, you’ll work with residents as well as independent CHO Home staff to enhance the quality of life for each individual resident and to empower the ability to gain life skills, grow their personal strengths and gain choices for their wellbeing.Consider revitalizing your career and making a difference in your community by joining our team!Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. Interested applicants who reside in the City of London and are in need of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible as PVSCs in the City of London are currently taking approximately 3 weeks to be processed and offers of employment cannot be made without receipt of a PVSC.

  • WHAT WERE OFFERING: *
  • What youll be making - $22.33 - $25.71 per hour, rate based on proof of comparable, previous experience; mileage between sites reimbursed per kilometre
  • When youll work - 70 hours over two-week period; Monday to Friday, 8:30am-4:00pm
  • Your pension plan – Immediately eligible for optional enrolment in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)

*HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE: *
  • Assess individuals’ strengths, needs, abilities and preferences
  • Assist the individual to identify their personal goals and preferences during wellness planning sessions in collaboration with the CHO team and appropriate supports, while working in partnership with the individual in all aspects of planning
  • Include and encourage individuals’ natural supports (e.g. family, significant friends), clarifying the roles each plays towards individuals’ rehabilitation
  • Assist the individual to explore resources, options and consequences of different choices
  • Champion individual’s individual capacity for independent community living
  • Assist and coach individuals in the learning and management/achievement of activities of daily living such as personal hygiene, chores, budgeting, socialization, etc.
  • Provide health teaching about mental illness and symptom management in collaboration with community partners
  • Coordinate recreational community outings and activities to enhance quality of life and further connect individuals to their community
WHAT YOULL NEED TO APPLY: Vaccination RequirementsCMHA Thames Valley Addiction & Mental Health Services requires that all staff members be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, with the rare exemption of those individuals who cannot be vaccinated due to approved exemptions (medical reasons or religious grounds as recognized in the Ontario Human Rights Code).   • University/college degree or diploma in the social science field
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Access to a vehicle and insurance adequate for transporting clients
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly

  • Minimum of one year work experience in the mental health field
  • First Aid / CPR
  • Knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation
  • Experience working in a residence setting
  • Knowledge of psychiatric medications
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Knowledge of computerized documentation methods
  • Crisis intervention and prevention training
  • Applied Suicide Interventions Skills and Training
  • Safe Food Handling
