Competition: 2021-49Program: NursingPosition Type: Temporary part-timeStart Date: 2021-11-16 17:00Closing Date: 2021-11-26 17:00<="" b="">Ward Clerk – Inpatient Nursing UnitTemporary Part-time positionUnifor Bargaining UnitInternal / External postingAbout The South Huron Hospital Association (SHHA):We serve the Municipality of South Huron and its adjacent communities—a catchment area of approximately 19,000 residents. The hospital is located in the village of Exeter, approximately 30 minutes north of London, and provides 24/7 emergency services in addition to acute, rehabilitation and complex continuing care inpatient services and various diagnostic and ambulatory services. Our staff also supports family practice and walk-in care at the South Huron Medical Centre. As a small rural hospital, we cherish the relationship we have with our community and pledge uncompromising standards to those we serve.Position Overview:The Ward Clerk, Inpatient Nursing Unit is responsible for co-ordinating department communication and completing administrative tasks on the Unit. This position involves being scheduled weekdays, weekends, and statutory holidays (day shifts). Specific duties include:

  • Call-ins for staffing and scheduling
  • Answer telephones
  • Booking tests, procedures, follow-up appointments and transportation
  • Transcribing Physician orders and scanning orders to the Pharmacy
  • Anticipating and preparing for patient discharges- i.e.: medication reconciliation forms
  • Ordering basic office supplies
  • Completing weekly time sheets and payroll coding
  • Inputting schedules into scheduling system and printing daily assignment sheet
  • Maintaining a filing system
  • Attending daily interdisciplinary rounds and communicating information as required
  • Checking daily for repatriations and manages as instructed
  • Collaborating with an interdisciplinary team
  • Maintaining and performing other clerical duties, as necessary and/or as requested (e.g. time entry)
Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Current Ward Clerk experience required.
  • Secondary School diploma required.
  • Health Care Office Assistant Certification or equivalent experience required.
  • Knowledge and use of Cerner system required.
  • Applied knowledge with ONA and Unifor scheduling language preferred.
  • Computer skills in a Windows-based environment.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Understands and practices good body mechanics.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated pattern of good attendance.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers, and other members of the community and public.
  • Current Police Check/Vulnerable Sector Screen and immunization status (including COVID-19 vaccination) required upon hire.
