COMPETITION #09-086There is a position available for a Before and After School Care Attendant - Special Needs at Bert Ambrose Elementary. Please note that due to licensing requirements, only applicants 19 years of age or older can be considered for this position.Reporting to site Administrative Officer and Before & After School Program Coordinator, this position is responsible for coordinating and providing before and after school care to school aged children who have special needs. Work hours will be 2:45 -5 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday weekly.Hours of Work: 2.25 hrs/day, 3 days per weekDuties to Commence: As soon as possible after closingWork Base Year: 10 MonthsCommencing Salary: $25.06/hr.Duties to be assigned include:Engage children in activities by telling stories, teaching songs and preparing crafts.Prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for activities and rest periods.Maintain toys and other applicable equipment and assist in housekeeping duties.Provides personal care to students on a regular or routine basis. Personal Care is defined as duties which require the attendant to come into direct body contact with the student (includes but is not limited to toileting needs).Carries out child specific procedures as outlined in the Health Care Plan.Supplies support services related to the position, for example (photocopying, typing and filing).Uses a wide range of equipment including adaptive technology, argumentative communication devices, computer systems and software.May be required to attend specific workshops at the direction of the Supervisor.Performs other job related duties as directed by the Supervisor.Qualifications:Grade 12 or equivalencyEducation Assistant or ECE college courses would be an assetOne year training/experience working with school aged children is preferredTraining/experience in non-averse behavior management programs, functional life skills curriculum personal care, discrete-trial-format instruction and communicating with low-verbal/non-verbal children. (College courses or School District workshops with certificate of participation).Level 1 First Aid Certificate may be requiredFood Safe CertificateAbility to work independently and set prioritiesW.H.M.I.S.
