Job Description

Term of App #39;t: Temporary, Full Time (30 hours per week); 3-yr term with summer months offStart date: October 15, 2024 - June 30, 2027Reporting to: Associate Dean of Academicamp; Vocational ProgramsSalary:$47.83 - 56.75/hour, depending on experience and qualifications as per the BCGEU Faculty Collective Agreement, with applicable wage increases occurring after every 1305 work hours. There is an opportunity for the successful candidate to opt into the College Pension Plan with contributions being met by the employer. Temporary employees receive an additional 2% in lieu of benefits, 6% vacation pay and 4.2% statutory holiday pay included with each pay.Description:NLC #39;s Career and College Preparation program requires an instructor to deliver study blocks at the Doig River First Nation Learning Centre. Course content spans the Adult Basic Education curriculum at the equivalent of Grades 8 - 11.This is a 3-year appointment, from September - June each year, with the summer months off. The weekly class schedule is Monday to Thursday, 10:00 - 12:00pm and 1:00 - 3:00pm, with the remainder of the hours to be completing other required duties. The period of time between Christmas and New Year #39;s Day is unpaid time.Necessary travel time, if required, will be paid from the Fort St John campus to the DRFN Learning Centre.Qualifications: Required:

  • Bachelor #39;s Degree in a relevant field (First Nations studies, Education, etc.).
  • Must be willing to participate in DRFN cultural events.
  • Ability to effectively function as a team member.
  • Intermediate skills with the MS Office Suite (word, excel, outlook, etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A commitment to student motivation and success.
  • Must hold a minimum of class 7 driver #39;s license.
Preferred:
  • Demonstratable and extensive related experience working in or with local Indigenous communities or have an in-depth knowledge of the local Indigenous traditional practices.
  • Instructional experience at the secondary or post-secondary levels.
  • Credential in Adult Education, such as the Provincial Instructor Diploma Program (completed or in progress); and
  • Experience instructing a culturally diverse group of students, including Indigenous students.
