HEAD CUSTODIAN - REPLACEMENT STEP #1Competition #10-141Position Description:There is a position available for a Head Custodian Replacement Step #1 at Margaret Ma Murray Community School. Applications must be completed online and will be accepted until 12:00 pm noon, November 17, 2022.Reporting to the Manager of Custodial Services in cooperation with the site Administrative Officer(s) and the Custodial Working Foreman, this position is responsible for the custodial and minor building maintenance work in the cleaning of School District facilities. The Head Custodian oversees the work of one or more custodians.Hours of work: (8) hrs per day, five (5) days per weekDuties to Commence: As soon as possible after closing until January 5, 2024 or upon return of the incumbentWork Year Base: Eleven (11) months per yearCommencing Salary : $24.15/hr.Duties:Cleans and disinfects building interior, fixtures and windows. This includes garbage removal, sweeping, vacuuming and wet mopping floors. Also performs some related cleaning duties to the exterior of the buildings and landings.Responsible for building security.Performs minor maintenance on doors, windows, lamps, school furniture and other fixtures, replaces burnt light bulbs.Under the general direction of the site Administrative Officer(s), Manager of Custodial Services, and Custodial Working Foreman, organizes regular work day and seasonal clean ups. Seasonal clean ups include stripping, scrubbing and waxing floors, washing walls, desks and furniture.Must accommodate evening user groups.Monitors and orders custodial and maintenance supplies as needed.Maintains and ensures tools and equipment are in good working order.Follows proper safety rules and standards by ensuring the worksite is safe and secure, that equipment is operated according to set standards and the proper and safe handling of hazardous materials (WHMIS).Informs the Manager of Custodial Services, Custodial Working Foreman and/or site Administrative Officer(s) of vandalismOversees the site orientation, training and work of one or more custodians as assigned.Performs other job related duties as directed by the site Administrative Officer(s), Manager of Custodial Services, and Custodial Working Foreman.Qualifications and Attributes:Grade 10 or equivalency1 year of commercial cleaning or school cleaning experience preferredExperience in a supervisory role is preferredAbility to operate large, self-propelled auto scrubber and window cleaning equipmentValid Class 5 drivers licence and access to a reliable vehicle may be requiredReading comprehension of written instructions and safety bulletinsAbility to work with the publicMust be well organizedAbility to work independently and set prioritiesGood interpersonal skills and the ability to be an integral part of a teamWHMIS Certificate and other online safety training provided by the District to be completed within the probationary periodOther applicable safety training and/or certification as provided by the District to be completed as neededMust be able to pass a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Search conducted by the District prior to staring employmentPlease Note: Proof of graduation and or highest level of education is required prior to starting workFor more information please contact:Sabrina Bourdon, Supervisor of Custodial, Safety and Procurement (250)785-1577 or email sbourdon@prn.bc.caAll applications must be made through Make A Future website for consideration for the position.
