Job Description

Term of App #39;t: Temporary, Full Time (30 hours/week) December 11.24 - May 2.25 (backfilling for current incumbent) Start date: December 11, 2024Reporting to: Dean of Academicamp; Vocational ProgramsSalary:$50.07 - $56.75/hr, depending on experience and qualifications as per the BCGEU Faculty Collective Agreement. Temporary employees receive an additional 2% in lieu of benefits, 6% vacation pay and 4.2% statutory holiday pay included with each pay. The period of campus closure that occurs between Christmas and New Year #39;s Day is unpaid time. Employees in this group have the opportunity to contribute to the College Pension Plan, that are matched by the employer.Description:The Social Services Worker Diploma (SSWD) program provides opportunities for students to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and qualifications to enable them to work in the human services worker field. The program involves two years of full-time study, with a combination of practice, theory, and academic course requirements aimed to prepare students to become critical practitioners with an emphasis on advocacy, social justice, and social change.The successful candidate will deliver courses in the Social Services Worker Diploma program for students on the Fort St John Campus, which will include:

  • SOWK 201 - Introduction to Social Welfare
  • SSWD 120 - Ethics and Practice
  • SSWD 220 - Practicum and Seminar
  • IHSW 104 - Social and Health Issues in Indigenous Communities.
The instructor will also be a program representative and liaison in the community of Fort St John and beyond. Instruction to be provided using a multitude of delivery modalities.This position may be required to travel to our Dawson Creek campus when needed.Qualifications:Required:
  • Bachelor #39;s Degree in Social Work or Social Services, with a Master #39;s Degree in a closely related discipline.
  • Five years of work experience in a related discipline.
  • Committed to student motivation and achievement.
  • Ability to function effectively as a team member through collaborative approaches to course pedagogy; and
  • Current and valid driver #39;s license.
Preferred:
  • Master #39;s Degree in Social Services.
  • BC Registered Social Worker (RSW)
  • The Provincial Instructor Diploma Program or an equivalent credential in adult education, or a readiness to pursue such a credential.
  • Experience teaching at the post-secondary level.
  • Experience with online learner management systems and teaching using a variety of delivery modalities.
  • Experience working in the social service field in rural and remote settings; and
  • Experience instructing a culturally diverse group of students, including Indigenous and international students.
