As someone with excellent communication skills and business acumen, you will thrive in our fast-paced and agile environment.Dillon’s Environmental Sciences technical group is looking for an Aquatic Biologist to join our existing talent base in Atlantic Canada. The position is for one of our New Brunswick (Fredericton or Saint John) offices. You will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience.This position is largely focused on clients and projects in the Maritime Provinces, but will also include the potential to work on projects across Canada. As a biologist at Dillon, you will be responsible for developing and fostering healthy client relationships, managing and supporting projects, scoping and executing field programs, technical report writing, and working with a dynamic team of environmental scientists, engineers and technologists.Responsibilities:What your day will look likeTechnical Development & Project Management (95%)

  • Participate in the scoping, development, and execution of independent and supporting fisheries/aquatic sciences (marine and/or freshwater) studies and programs
  • Support clients in obtaining permitting and approvals of infrastructure project planning, design and construction
  • Support preparation of permitting and approvals acquisition activities related to working in and around water and the broader environment (e.g., Fisheries Act, Impact Assessment Act, Canada Transportation Act, Water Sustainability Act, Pulp and Paper Effluent Regulations, Metal and Diamond Mining Effluent Regulations, and related provincial regulations)
  • Contribute to environmental investigations, environmental management strategies, and plans including research, planning and executing field work, report writing, and stakeholder and regulator engagement

Qualifications:What you will need to succeed
  • An undergraduate degree in biology, ecology or a related environmental sciences field.
  • Valid driver’s license (Class 5)
  • Possession of backpack electrofishing certification, CABIN certification, and/or Pleasure Craft Operator’s Certificate would be an asset
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills
  • Proficiency in English. Working knowledge of French would be considered an asset
Experience:
  • Knowledge of riparian area regulations and assessment requirements
  • Experience in the preparation of regulatory approval applications and submissions
  • Experience in the design and delivery of freshwater and/or marine fish and fish habitat assessment programs
  • Experience in freshwater and/or marine fish habitat enhancement and restoration techniques
  • Experience in conducting aquatic environmental effects monitoring programs
  • Experience engaging and/or working with stakeholders and communities, including Indigenous communities
  • Understanding of the application of Best Management Practices to environmental compliance and effectiveness monitoring programs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, critical thinking, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to project quality and capability of meeting project deadlines
