Job Description

The Department of Classics & Ancient History at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton invites applications for a Tenure Track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to commence on July 1, 2023, subject to final budgetary approval.Candidates should have a completed PhD with research and teaching interests in Ancient Western Asia and/or North Africa and Egypt. Possible areas of focus include, but are not limited to: Ancient Mesopotamia, the Ancient Levant, Pharaonic Egypt, Ancient Persia, the Phoenicians, and the Carthaginian Empire. A familiarity with archaeology and material culture would be an asset.The successful candidate will join a small but dynamic department of teachers and researchers and will contribute to the development of a new program in Ancient World Studies that will decentre the traditional Classics subdisciplines to provide a more diverse treatment of the ancient world. Ancient World Studies will draw from interdisciplinary expertise in Classics & Ancient History along with several other departments, including History, Anthropology, Philosophy, and English. In addition to teaching broad undergraduate survey courses and upper-level courses in their specialty, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues in various units for graduate instruction and supervision.By October 3, 2022, interested applicants should submit a cover letter outlining their teaching experience and research interests, a curriculum vitae, and three letters of reference, sent under separate cover, to misty.sullivan@unb.ca.
