Job Description

The Department of English at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton invites applications for a Tenure-Track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to commence on July 1, 2023, subject to final budgetary approval.Candidates should have a completed PhD, or be close to completion, with expertise in Canadian fiction and research and teaching that takes an anti-racist, decolonial approach. Secondary expertise in gender and sexuality studies, young adult literature, Canadian drama, creative writing, Indigenous literature, or disability studies would also be welcome.A small, research-intensive department with a reputation for high-quality teaching located on unceded Wolastoqey lands in New Brunswicks capital city, UNBs Department of English offers a wide range of undergraduate programs in English literature, drama, and creative writing as well as MA and PhD programs in literature, gender and sexuality in literature, and creative writing. One of the first universities to offer courses in Canadian literature, UNB is home to two journals: Studies in Canadian Literature/Etudes en litterature canadienne (SCL/ELC), a biannual, bilingual academic journal devoted to the study of Canadian literature in English and French, and The Fiddlehead (est. 1945), a regional magazine with an international reputation for publishing poetry, short fiction, and Canadian literature reviews.The successful candidate will contribute to the departments teaching across all levels, from first-year to graduate courses, and will have the opportunity to develop courses in their field of expertise and to contribute to the departments ongoing inclusion and decolonization efforts across the curriculum.Demonstrated excellence in scholarship and teaching is required.
