Job Description

At SMS Equipment our Service Supervisors are charismatic leaders who love being a part of an essential and dynamic team. In this position, the Service Supervisor will lead a team of career trades people who exceed customer expectations and demonstrate personal craftmanship in everything they do. We are looking for a leader who will bring their own insight, experience and positive influence to the team.​As an SMS Equipment Service Supervisor, you will work with career trades people who take pride in their work and company. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Operations. Ensure that operational requirements are met by supervising, coordinating and scheduling the activities of trades people. Conduct in-process inspections and evaluating the finished product to ensure a high quality. Prepare service quotes for internal and external customers. Prepare and review SMS and Komatsu technical reports including: Technical Service Information (TSI), Technical Service Requests (TSR), Machine Down Requests (MDR), Parts Rob requests, and Quality Assurance Documents.
  • Supervision. Ensure SMS Equipment policies and procedures are met and enforced. Ensure that safety practices are adhered to and that trade practices and regulations are followed. Support and develop staff by training; ensuring employees are trained in their assigned tasks; arrange and track training. Ensure employee rotation between departments for development purposes. Assists with preparing and reviewing Incident/Accident reports.
  • Customer Service. Assist customers by providing service information and by resolving service problems. Order and organize field repair parts, including PM services and Komatsu Care Programs. Organize Komatsu mandatory Field Campaigns in shop and in the field.
  • Administration of all work orders. Ensure correct and sufficient inventory is ordered to match large work orders. Prepare warranty work orders with all required documentation. Prepare warranty work orders with all required documentation.
Qualifications:The successful candidate will possess a Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician certification with a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Heavy Equipment Technician. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. Other requirements include
  • Position requires a thorough knowledge of maintenance and repair of Komatsu and other OEM equipment.
  • Supervisory experience is a requirement.
  • Ability to oversee and coordinate a large shop operation.
  • Must be an organized individual, self-motivated and a self-starter.
  • Also requires knowledge of OH amp;S acts and regulations and equipment inspection requirements.
  • Bilingualism English and French is an asset.
