The Museum Education Officer will work closely with the Executive Director, the Museum Intern and the Exhibit Curator in the summer of 2022 to provide excellent tours, front desk reception and visitor information services in support of new exhibits, educational programming and outreach.This is an entry- to mid-level position providing skills development and work experience that is transferrable into any workplace. They are looking for skills development and professional work experience opportunities in public programming and the arts. They may have a love of theatre, public speaking and are confident and able to adapt to changing circumstances due to COVID-19 restrictions.The Museum Education Officer will work as part of a team tasked with interpreting (through guided tours and other public programming) the newly redeveloped exhibit on the history of the legendary - and some say mythological - Coleman Frog, a 42 pound stuffed amphibian with a backstory that is part of Frederictons folklore. The Coleman Frog is one of the museums most popular attractions and regularly attracts visitors of all ages - especially children - who have an interest in amphibians, science and the environment. In addition to the important social and cultural history narrative underlying the Coleman Frog exhibit, it also involves her partners with a focus on nature and the environment. These include Science East, Hyla Frog Park and the City of Fredericton which operates Killarney Lake (where legend has it the Coleman Frog was befriended in 1885 by Fred Coleman, a local innkeeper who catapulted the frog to fame). Given COVID restrictions which limit the number of visitors to themuseum, we will be working with these partners to maximize oursummer programming outreach beyond the 4 walls of the museum.The museum will also promote our two popular new (2021) exhibits on the Black Heritage of York Sunbury Counties and Stanton Friedman is Out of This World with programming targetting youth, children and families.Additionally, we will be promoting the museums 3 existing GEO COIN outdoor challenges and our GEO TOURS with Dr. Anne Timmermans of UNBs Quartermain Earth Science Centre, who takes visitors on a walking tour of the geological history of Fredericton.The Museum Education Officer will be expected to participate in an orientation and training session to become familiar with the museums exhibits and opening and closing procedures, its day to day business operations, administration practices andemergency procedures with a focus on the health and safety of our employees, volunteers and visitors through our COVID 19 Operational Plan.RESPONSIBILITIES:
