Job Description

Sheridan Nurseries Glen Williams Farm is actively searching for an:Assistant Manager, OperationsPermanent, Full TimeAbout the Job:The Assistant Manager, Operations is responsible for the planning and execution of farm activities related to staffing and production at our Glen Williams location. In this role you will bring your experience in leadership, business analysis and production management. You will be responsible for overseeing the hiring, onboarding, and development of permanent and seasonal staff, while ensuring our high standards in health and safety are maintained.Your Accountabilities:

  • Work with Management to analyze and develop a detailed production plan for the coming year.
  • Oversee annual labour plan, setting hiring targets and executing plan to hire and onboard seasonal staff as required in conjunction with the Operations Assistant.
  • Manage the company’s Seasonal Agricultural Worker program in conjunction with the Operations Assistant.
  • Work with the Production Supervisor to ensure the plan is executed, including scheduling, coaching, and monitoring daily safety, quality, and attainment goals.
  • Managing the production of seasonal custom products and growing the program to meet market demand.
  • Working with Management to challenge our existing processes, and then find, test, and implement new ways to reduce scrap and improve efficiency.
  • Provide cost analysis, financial modeling, labour forecasts and other reports to Management on weekly basis.
  • Provide leadership and direction to all employees, including holding direct reports accountable and actively providing training, coaching, and mentorship.
  • Provide a safe work environment for all employees through active observations, hazard reporting, coaching on relevant health and safety best practices, and leading by example while ensuring all employees are adhering to company policies and guidelines.
  • Assist with other duties and projects as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong and compassionate leader that drives results, motivates employees, and ensures accountability while aiming to exceed expectations.
  • Experience supervising in an Agriculture/Horticulture or production setting
  • High standard of professionalism with excellent communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple demands, setting priorities, making decisions, and exercising best judgment.
  • Resourceful and self-directed with the ability to work collaboratively with others to achieve goals.
  • Ability to adapt and prioritize multiple tasks and situations with effective time management skills.
  • Proficient in the MS Office Suite programs, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • You are punctual and dependable, and highly value honesty, integrity, and authenticity.
  • Valid class G Ontario driver’s license.
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts including day, evening, weekends, and holidays as seasonal peaks require.
  • This job requires extended periods of walking and standing, as well as the ability to lift 50lbs and work in various weather conditions and environments.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
